Vitor Belfort is a brand new Blackzilian and he's in the home stretch of his short but sweet training camp with the Florida based fight team, who are doing their very best to properly prepare him for his light heavyweight championship showdown against Jon Jones at UFC 152 on Sat., Sept. 22, 2012, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He's had little time to get ready but that's fine because "The Phenom" is from the old school.
"You know, it's this: I come from back in the old school, Carlson Gracie's time. I know this new breed, they all like studying, how I need to study my opponent. But listen: the hardcore fans, they understand my mentality. It's all about the sport. But it's just a choice and when this came knocking on my door, I took the opportunity. That's how I am. And now I'm enjoying the process, I'm enjoying the journey. I'm fighting the best guy in this weight division ever."
Is there any real chance we'll see the 35-year-old Belfort knock off the much younger, hungrier lion? The oddsmakers don't think so, seeing as they inserted "Bones" as one of the biggest favorites in the history of mixed martial arts (MMA) let alone a championship fight.
They're not supposed to look so lopsided.
Special circumstances dictated as much, however, and now everyone is simply working with what they've got. Jones is looking to add another name to his already incredible resume, Belfort is getting one last long shot at glory, and the UFC is just trying to get through an event without another catastrophic injury ruining its plans.
That's why we love it, right?
