While Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva awaits the winner of the first round fantasy fight between Alistair Overeem vs. Mark Coleman on the other side of the seven-man Round 5 Ultimate Collector Series 10 tournament, Chael Sonnen and Lyoto Machida will continue the quartfinal mixed martial arts (MMA) action on this end of the bracket.
Sonnen, who failed twice in his bid to unseat Silva from his 185-pound championship perch, made the decision to move back up to the Light Heavyweight division. But, before he gets the opportunity to do it for real later this year against Forrest Griffin at UFC 155, Sonnen will get an imaginary tune-up match against "The Dragon."
Machida, himself a former 205-pound champion, is a dear friend of Silva. The pair train together often and have made it clear that they would never fight each other. That could all change if Silva and Machida advance to these tournament finals, but first, Machida will have to take care of Brazil's Public Enemy No. 1.
This bout is scheduled for three rounds, with the winner most likely poised to advance to the finals. That's because awaiting the winner is either UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz or former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion Anthony Pettis in the semifinal round.
Then again, it's up to you to decide who advances by casting your votes below. So, for now, let's focus on a dream fight between Machida, the calculated Karate master, and Sonnen, the outspoken wrestling-minded, submission prone ground-and-pounder.
After the jump, pick either Machida or Sonnen to advance, based on their respective skills represented in their Round 5 figurine. To get a closer look at each fighter click here and here. And remember to make your argument for their victory in the comments section after voting.
