In light of the recent injuries that handicapped UFC 153, which is scheduled to take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Oct. 23, 2012, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in desperate need of good news.
Earlier today, the world's leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion lost both its main- and co-main events to injuries, and the card clearly can't stand on its own. Rumors have swirled, but nothing concrete has come to light.
However, if a recent Tweet from former light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida, is any clue, we might get a glimpse at a few of Brazil's most iconic stars, along with the promise of a "big surprise:"
Estamos preparando uma grande surpresa para vcs! twitter.com/lyotomachidafw…
— Lyoto Machida (@lyotomachidafw) September 12, 2012
If you can't read Portuguese (like me), here's a translation of that Tweet:
We are preparing a big surprise for you!
Clearly pictured are Brazilian UFC standouts Wanderlei Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, Mauricio Rua and Machida himself. All but Shogun have already been featured on some of the UFC's more recent outings into Brazil, and it seems that it may have an announcement for the event.
What that may be is unclear at this time, but speculation is swirling thanks in large part to social media.
Seeing all of these fighters make an appearance on the fight card would certainly be fun, but we can't be sure that is what's going to happen. Even if they did, the card will still lack some of its original luster.
Then again, it would be better than UFC 149.
