"Dreams do come true."
That's what Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones posted on his Twitter account after he broke the major news that he had signed a multi-year deal with shoe and clothing apparel giant NIKE:
"Blessed to be signed by the biggest sports apparel company in the world #NIKE Dreams do come true."
Jones joins the small list mixed martial artists (MMA) to sign with the famed sports brand following in the footsteps of Yoshihiro Akiyama, Caol Uno, Kazuyuki Miyata and UFC middleweight Champion Anderson Silva who signed an endorsement deal of his own with Nike, last year.
The deal is a definite major milestone in the still young career of one of the most successful and dominate UFC champions in the promotions history and comes just a few months after Jones openly expressed his wish to be sponsored by the company.
More on the major announcement, after the jump:
With the deal, Jones now joins an elite list of high profiled athletes in various professional sports such as football, basketball, boxing and baseball who are sponsored by NIKE which includes the likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Brian Urlacher, Derek Jeter and Manny Pacquiao, just to name a few.
Though the deal has yet to be publicly announced by the sports apparel juggernaught, expect "Bone's" to be sporting the famous brand in his upcoming bout with Dan Henderson at UFC 151 on Sept. 1, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As always, MMAmania.com will have more details of the historic deal as they emerge.
