The tension between Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia has been simmering over the course of the last few days and threatened to boil over at the ONE FC: 'Pride of a Nation' weigh in earlier today (Aug. 30, 2012) in Manila.
The two men would not take their eyes off each other the entire time they were on stage together after stepping on on the scales and went eyeball to eyeball, forcing ONE FC CEO / Owner Victor Cui to try to separate them before they came to blows.
When the two men passed each other at the public work outs yesterday Sylvia did not even look at Arlovksi who shouted 'taste my pee pee' at him as he walked away, a reference to this incident. They also squared off in the hotel elevator with a worried ONE FC official fearing he would get caught in the crossfire but Arlovksi merely poked Sylvia in the chest and said 'you better be ready,' to which the man who took his UFC heavyweight belt replied 'I am ready.'
The animosity between these two men has been the main talking point among the media present in Manila the last few days and this fight will be a defining moment for the careers of both men. With so much trash talking in the build up it is going to be a humiliating night for the loser.
Full ONE FC 5 weigh in results and recap after the jump.
The biggest cheer of the afternoon was reserved for Eduard Folayang with 'MMA's answer to Manny Pacquiao' getting a huge cheer from the Filipino fans in attendance. He will be up against Felipe Enomoto whose unusual choice of headgear reflects his Japanese / Peruvian heritage with the Manga style mask and the Peruvian hat.
He opted to sign for ONE FC instead and will make his debut against another BJJ black belt in the main event in Manila. Although Fernandes has not fought since New Year's Eve he is very confident coming into this clash against a very experienced opponent.
Another big fight for the Filipino fans will be Jens Pulver vs Eric Kelly, the Filipino will be putting his 7-0 record on the line against the former UFC lightweight champion and if he wins his next fight will probably be for the ONE FC featherweight title.
Two fighters who own't be buying one another a beer after the show are Phil Baroni and Rodrigo Ribeiro. The 'New York Badass' made his 20 lbs weight cut look easy and was in good form as the weigh in, although he still got in the Brazilian's face and informed him repeatedly that he was going to 'f**k him up'.
