Remember the "ref cam" in PRIDE Fighting Championship?
Well, it's back, just in time for UFC on FOX 4: "Shogun vs. Vera," which debuts a referee-mounted camera to broadcast all the action inside the Octagon from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on Aug. 4, 2012.
Fortunately, "Big" John McCarthy won't get any bigger.
That's because a report from Yahoo! Sports indicates the "lens will be placed at the top button of the referee’s shirt" and "the power-source, a long-life lithium ion battery and the transmitter are worn as a light chest vest under the referee’s shirt."
FOX Sports fans should be used to the gimmick.
NASCAR has the "Gopher Cam," while Baseball has the "Catcher Cam" and "Diamond Cam." No word yet on the implementation of the rumored "Urinal Cam," but I have to imagine it would get a lot of laughs on the big screen.
To get a taste of the "Third Man," check out a highlight video of the PRIDE ref cam in action, after the jump.
