It's as simple as that. Why you ask? Because Edgar just lost two title fights in a row and GSP is a weight class higher. Of course Edgar barely lost those fights and doesn't run his mouth like Rush Limbaugh.
As far as Dana White completely ignoring the UFC's challenger system that he helped build just emphasizes the fact that the less we hear from him the better.
I respect that he's helped this sport tremendously, however the thing that helped elevate this sport to "public acceptance" is also the thing that's killing it, I'm talking about The Ultimate Fighter.
Why is it killing it you ask? Because of the increasingly common "generic quality" of the UFC's fight cards. Any fight can be a great fight, but it's "interesting match-ups" that fans really want to see.
I'm a huge Pride fan as well. The thing I really miss about Pride (besides kicks and knees to a downed opponent, but that's a whole nother article) was that in Pride they had a roster of known fighters and they would create interesting match-ups on every card while at the same time slowly introducing new talent.
Conclusion: we either need a second organization to compete with the UFC by creating fights people "want" to see or a UFC2 that is the minor leagues (all free fights) that allows new fighters to make a name for themselves before they occupy PPV slots.
What I learned from Pride is that it's not about winning the belt it's about winning fans, even if you lose. Although I'm not a Chael fan I like that win or lose we all want to see him fight.
