We're just days away (Sat., Aug. 4, 2012) from UFC on Fox 4: "Shogun vs. Vera," which is set to go down at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is riding a wave of momentum after one of its mixed martial arts (MMA) events, UFC on FOX 3 earlier this year, finally delivered several memorable moments and solid scraps. Of course, the main event of the evening between Mauricio Rua vs. Brandon Vera as well as the the co-main event between Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader, which suddenly have 205-pound title implications on the line, will be expected to live up to its marquee billing.

But, before the Light Heavyweights can shine under the spotlight, Joe Lauzon and Jamie Varner, among others, will be charged with setting the tone for the night. And both lightweights are coming in with completely different levels of momentum and confidence levels.

Here's Lauzon's:

"I love it when people underestimate me. I love when people look at me and say, 'Oh, that's just the jiu-jitsu guy.' I have a lot of submissions on my record, but a lot of those guys I smashed in the face first to set up the submission."

And Varner's:

"I think as long a I make weight and show up, I'm gonna win this fight. I feel very confident. Joe's a very tough opponent. I'm not overlooking him. I just think I'm better."

There's some serious potential for fireworks between Varner and Lauzon. Let's hope Varner's victory over Barboza hasn't gone to his head.
