Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is bringing Wrestlemania to "The City of Lakes" when it kicks off its upcoming UFC on FX 5 fight card scheduled for October 5, 2012 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
That's because Aaron Simpson will try to continue his climb up the welterweight ranks by taking on the rough-and-tumble Mike Pierce, according to a report from MMA Fighting. Both Simpson and Pierce were NCAA Division I standouts.
Now, they're trying to stand out from the rest of the 170-pound pack.
Simpson made his welterweight debut at the UFC on FUEL TV 4: "Munoz vs. Weidman" network-televised event just last month, grinding out a unanimous decision win against a very game Kenny Robertson. The victory pushed his record to 12-3 overall and 4-1 over his last five.
But the biological clock is ticking for the 38-year-old "A-Train."
Pierce (14-5) hasn't seen a finish since pounding out the aforementioned Robertson at UFC 126: "Silva vs. Belfort" pay-per-view (PPV) event in early 2011. Since then, he's been to the scorecards in four consecutive fights with three split decisions.
Can he secure a stoppage and his second straight win this October?
, headlined by a 5heavyweight battle pitting Travis Browne vs. Antonio Silva, will also feature a featherweight fracas between former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) veterans Bart Palaszewski vs. Diego Nunes.
