A featherweight fracas took place at the UFC 148: "Silva vs. Sonnen 2" event tonight (Sat., July 7, 2012) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Chad Mendes returned to the cage to take on Cody McKenzie.

Mendes, of course, was looking to erase the memory of his devastating defeat at the hands -- or knee -- of Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo earlier this year. McKenzie was the unlucky man chosen to stand in his way of climbing back up the division ladder.

And it showed how much of a mismatch this was.

Mendes finished McKenzie in just 31 seconds after catching a kick, planting McKenzie with a body shot, and finishing him with punches on the ground. Wam, bam, thank you ma'am.

This one didn't last long and that's because it was an utter mismatch from the word "go."

Mendes caught a lazy low kick and popped McKenzie in the midsection. That was literally all it took to put the former Ultimate Fighter competitor on the mat.

The follow up punches were academic.
