The Art Of War: Anderson Silva

Dont Believe the hype

Alot has been made about Anderson Silvas recent rants. His threats, his "loose cannon" attitude and his anger spinning out of control. However, anyone who watched the press conference and looked past it noticed that Anderson wasn't the odd man in the situation, it was Chael Sonnen. We have seen this anger before in the Nick Diaz"s and the Babaulu Sobral"s, you know, the genuine anger and aggressiveness. I don't think there is any doubt that Chael got under Andersons skin a long time ago, but he played it cool, with a dismissive smirk and a lackadaisical demeanor that made Chael keep talking and pushing the envelope with how disrespectfulness he can possibly display, while Anderson all but refused to acknowledge it. The thing is, Chael isn't winning the mind game like the politically correct GSP seems to think. Anderson has a mean streak, and we have all seen it, he just chose to hold it back, until a week before the fight. He isn't going to go in there and attack Chael with reckless abandon the way Chael thinks he will. He has Chael in the mindset that Anderson is going to throw caution to the wind, but that was never the plan. If anyone has followed Anderson one thing has been made very clear, he fights his fights the way he sees fit, and a trash talking Chael Sonnen isn't strong enough to alter that. I think what a lot of people are failing to recognize is that Anderson has never stepped out of his comfort zone, which is to be aware of time, distance and the direct actions that lead to the maiming of his opponents. So while team quest tells him "you have him right where you want him", Anderson is cool as a cucumber and is certainly laughing in the hotel because Chaels biggest weapon just turned around and pointed directly at his face. You don't win 14 fights in the UFC and become the most dominant champion in UFC history by losing control. Chael has put a lot of effort into getting in Andersons head, and with one conference call, Anderson undid years of fake, pro wrestling mind games, and Chael is now on the other end of a mind game he isn't built to receive, he is only built to dish out. He showed in the past with Babalu that he can be overwhelmed by aura, and no matter how much he tries to convince himself, Anderson Silva is in his head, and its clear as day.
