Former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Jens Pulver are both heading to ONE FC: 'Destiny of Warriors' in Manila on August 31st and their opponents are reportedly confirmed. The Belarusian will be taking on Australia's Soa Palelei while the American is going up against Filipino Eric Kelly.
Palalei is a CFC veteran, the reigning AFC heavyweight champion and his status as the number one heavyweight in Australia is well established. He is 17-3, has fought for both the UFC and Pride and is riding a seven fight win streak although he will be in for a step up in opposition against Arlvovski.
Eric Kelly is arguably the top fighter in the Philippines at the moment, has a perfect professional record of 7-0 and is coming off ONE FC wins against Mitch Chilson and Bae Young Kwon. He is the reigning URCC featherweight champion and will get a chance to claim a win over a former UFC champion when he takes on Pulver.
Pulver spent most of his career as a lightweight and was the first ever UFC 155 lbs champion, a title he won by defeating Caol Uno and defended successfully against BJ Penn and Dennis Hallman before the UFC decided to disband the division.
He has signed a multi fight contract with ONE FC and can compete at either featherweight or bantamweight but his fight with Kelly, Pulver's first in Asia since 2006 when he was fighting for PRIDE, will be taking place at 145 lbs. After suffering an indifferent run of form in the WEC which saw him lose to Urjah Faber twice he has got his career back on track with four wins in his last six fights.
Arlovvski has also been resurgent recently, winning both his last two fights by way of stoppage and at the age of just 33 feels he still has plenty to offer and will be an early contender for the heavyweight title. Rolles Gracie is also on the card, fighting an as yet undisclosed opponent, as slowly but surely ONE FC start to build a heavyweight division.
ONE FC: 'Destiny of Warriors' is taking place at the 16,500 capacity Araneta Coliseum and will feature the likes of Shinya Aoki, Renato Sobral, Phil Baroni, Igor Gracie, Gregor Gracie, Eduard Folayang and Kevin Belingon. More details will be announced at the official press conference this Thursday.
