Things just got interesting (again) in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight division.
That's because DREAM 135-pound champion Bibiano Fernandes has defected to ZUFFA after his former employers have reportedly closed up shop, inking a contract that puts him against Roland Delorme at the UFC 149: "Aldo vs. Koch" pay-per-view (PPV) event from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 21, 2012.
UFC.com brought word of the signing earlier today.
Fernandes (11-3) is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, having recently pounded out World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) veteran Antonio Banuelos at the Dream: "Genki Desu Ka!" New Year's Eve event late last year.
Delorme (8-1) has made a "stunning" splash into the bantamweight division, securing back-to-back submission wins over Josh Ferguson and Nick Denis since graduating from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14.
UFC 149 features a main event title fight between reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo putting his 145-pound title on the line against the dangerous striking attack of division number one contender Erik Koch.
Other main card match-ups include Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's return from injury to face off against Cheick Kongo while Michael Bisping tries to get back into the 185-pound title hunt against middleweight "Barbarian" Tim Boetsch.
