Let's try this one again.
Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza will take on Derek Brunson at the upcoming "Rousey vs. Kaufman" Showtime event on Sat., Aug. 18, 2012 at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.
MMA Weekly brought word of the booking earlier today.
"Jacare" was supposed to welcome Brunson to the Hexagon earlier this year when Ronda Rousey defeated Miesha Tate for the Women's Bantamweight title in Columbus; however, the Jackson's MMA pupil failed his medical exam (eyesight) and was forced to withdraw.
Bristol Marunde took his place and got squashed, as expected.
Souza broke his hand in the affair but will apparently be all patched up and ready to go by the time the August bout rolls around. The Brazilian is 5-1 under the Strikeforce banner (15-3 overall) and hoping to get himself back into the 185-pound title hunt as soon as possible.
Can Brunson (9-1) play spoiler?
The upcoming Strikeforce event on Showtime will see 135-pound champion Ronda Rousey defend her title against former division titleholder Sarah Kaufman. Elsewhere on the card, Roger Bowling takes on Tarec Saffiedine while T.J. Cook goes into battle against Ovince St. Preux.
