While watching the disaster of a main event at this past Friday's card on FX, I couldn't decide which was worse.....Clay Guida's performance, or Kenny Florian's commentary of his performance. I've always tried giving Kenny the benefit of the doubt as a commentator, considering he's competed at the highest level of the sport.....but even I couldn't ignore the his assessment of Guida's performance, which in hindsight made Carlos Condit look like an actual, natural born killer.
Like most sports that are televised, the commentary includes both a play-by-play commentator, along with a color commentator. For my money, I'd prefer that the color commentator not take an "agnostic" or "middle-of-the-road" approach. That's why we have guys like Goldie, Anik and Mauro. Considering the color commentators are typically ex-fighters (or comedians), I'd like to see a little more authenticity to their commentary. I realize this can draw as much criticism as it does praise, but considering they are either fighters or ex-fighters, it would be interesting to know what they are truly thinking as a fight unfolds.
