Don't look now, but another season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) is upon us as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials have announced that the newest season of the reality show is set to begin filming in Sydney, Australia in under two weeks, dubbed Australia vs. UK ‘The Smashes,' which will air on FX in Australia.
The UFC took its show on the road this year, for the first time ever, going international with TUF "Brazil," which was filmed in Rio de Janeiro and had mixed martial arts (MMA) superstars Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva serve as head coaches.
Marshall Zelaznik, Managing Director of International Development for the UFC had this to say (via FightBulletin.net):
"We're excited to be part of the FX family in Australia. When the first series of The Ultimate Fighter debuted in the United States seven years ago, it brought in millions of new fans who tuned in each and every week to watch their favourite fighters. I have no doubt that The Smashes will do the same in Australia. We're looking forward to working with FX to take the UFC to new heights and new audiences in this country."
More on what to expect for the new season on TUF, after the jump:
Unlike past seasons, contestants will not have to fight their way into the house, but rather will be chosen during tryouts as was the case with the early seasons of the show. So far the promotion has been "stunned" by the quality of applicants, according to ESPN.co.uk.
The teams will be coached by a fighter from their country, though coaches have yet to be named. This isn't the first time TUF featured two different countries going head to head. In 2009, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping were assigned coaching duties in TUF: United States vs. United Kingdom.
Anyone care to venture a guess as to who will have the opportunity to coach the fresh crop of aspiring fighters looking to make a name for themselves in the UFC? Are you excited for the new season of the popular T.V. show? Or are you headed toward TUF overload?
