The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 146: "Dos Santos vs. Mir," which took place on Sat., May 26, 2012, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With several violent bouts on pay-per-view (PPV) main card, which collectively lasted less than 23 minutes in actual fight time, there were quite a few fighters who were flagged for follow up visits to their doctors.
Chief among them is Cain Velasquez, who must be cleared by a physician for a hand injury -- one that most likely occurred while savagely punching Antonio Silva in a brutal (and bloody) ground-and-pound barrage -- or he won't be allowed to return until Nov. 20, 2012.
That might throw a wrench in the tentative plans for a rematch with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion, Junior Dos Santos, who was provided with clean post-fight bill of health after his tooling of Frank Mir in the main event of the evening.
However, Velasquez wasn't the only one to be slapped with a potentially extensive stay on the sidelines. The aforementioned "Bigfoot," as well as Jamie Varner, Jason Miller, C.B. Dollaway and Jacob Volkmann, are all facing six-month suspensions unless medically cleared to return sooner.
Here is the complete list of UFC 146 injuries and their medical instructions:
Frank Mir: Suspended until July 23, 2012, and no contact until July 11, 2012.
Cain Velasquez: Suspended until Nov. 20, 2012, because of a possible left hand injury, unless the x-ray is negative and he is medically cleared to return sooner. Minimum suspension until June 26, 2012, and no contact until June 17, 2012.

Dave Herman: Suspended until July 23, 2012, and no contact until July 11, 2012.
Stipe Miocic: Suspened until June 26, 2012, and no contact until June 17, 2012.

Jason Miller: Suspended until Nov. 20, 2012, because of possible right thumb and left knee injuries, unless the x-ray is negative and he is medically cleared to return sooner. Minimum suspension until July 11, 2012, and no contact until June 26, 2012.
C.B. Dollaway: Suspended until Nov. 20, 2012, because of a possible left thumb injury, unless the x-ray is negative and he is medically cleared to return sooner. Minimum suspension until June 26, 2012, and no contact until June 17, 2012.
Duane Ludwig: Suspended until July 23, 2012, and no contact until July 11, 2012.
Jacob Volkmann: Suspended until Nov. 20, 2012, because of possible left elbow injury, unless the x-ray is negative and he is medically cleared to return sooner.
Mike Brown: Suspended until June 26, 2012, and no contact until June 17, 2012, because of a forehead laceration.
Daniel Pineda: Suspended until June 26, 2012, and no contact until June 17, 2012, because of a "tough fight."
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
