The UFC 146: "Dos Santos vs. Mir" main card kept rolling right along from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, tonight (Sat., May 26, 2012) with yet another heavyweight showcase pitting Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman. Or, really, the two men on the roster UFC President Dana White likes the least.
Nelson's schedule has been tough but he's struggled mightily as of late, losing three of four heading into tonight's bout against Herman, who himself came in on a poor performance getting finished by Stefan Struve.
51 seconds later and the beard has been fed.
That's because Nelson landed a big looping overhand right that exploded Herman's chin and had him sitting on his ass in the center of the cage wondering where he was. Title contention may not be in his near future but he deserves accolades for this one.
They started out standing, as all fights do, and that's where it ended. About 40 seconds in, Nelson threw a looping overhand right, what Joe Rogan called a haymaker, and that put Herman in a different universe.
Dude was out, ladies and gentlemen. Gone.
And just like that, "Big Country" likely earned his third "Knockout of the Night" in the UFC.
