Hi guys and gals. I have finally completed four pieces of MMA artwork so I can do another fanpost. While these ones aren't as technically uh... anal as the last ones they were a lot more fun to do because I wasn't buggering about trying to make things perfect like I was last time. Whether you guys like them as much... well I will be hoping you do but I would understand if you didn't.
The first one is a painting of Urijah Faber. This is the first painting I've done in... something like 5 or 6 years so it's pretty good considering. Back in the day I tried to be nigh on photographic with my painting but I forced myself not to do that this time and to be honest, this is the kind of painting style I like to look at so logically I should be doing it myself. Anyway, here's the first one, it took four hours and was done with acrylic paints using a nylon brush.
Oh, one last thing. You should have seen me try to sign the damn thing. It took me several minutes to write those two letters, it's embarassing really, I can not paint words to save my life.
Next up is a drawing of Rashad. This was from a photo of him working on his footwork at the gym I think, from the UFC website. Actually, all the reference photos are from the UFC website I believe so thanks to the photographer/s. This one only took a couple of hours, I was really fast and loose drawing this, with a black ballpoint pen as usual. Oh, and a blue one for the shorts.
Next up is my least favourite, but I learnt a lesson from doing this. The lesson is: don't try to draw anything that has hardly any shadows, it will turn out flat looking and boring. The problem is the photo got taken outside so there is light coming from all angles for the most part. I sigh at it, I really do. But I did actually complete it so I might as well post it here. Background done in photoshop, the rest done with assorted ballpoint pens.
Finally, I did a black ballpoint pen portrait of Tito. Normally I do a hard black line on the outside but for this one I didn't think it needed it. For that matter I only think that sort of style works for certain drawings. I think it worked for the Diaz and Machida drawings, not so much for Lesnar or JDS. Oh well, everything is a learning process. Anyway... here it be:
That's about it folks. I am also currently working on an image that one of you guys posted in that thread I started, I'm painting it in photoshop so it should be ready by the time I post the next lot, whenever that is.
So yeah... hopefully you guys like these. Cheers for looking.
Hmm... one last thing. My current deviantart page is http://aghatha03.deviantart.com/
Thanks! :)
