By now, most of us have seen the story that broke earlier in regards to Anheuser-Busch threatening to "take action" if the UFC doesnt clamp down on it's fighters and staff. In fact one rep was quoted as saying "It does not appreciate or support any of the promotion's fighters, or its staff, making any type of derogatory, insensitive or discriminating remarks of any kind. And if the perceived problem isn't remedied, America's most famous beer brewing company will be forced "to act."
So, the story seems to be all about what the fighters should or should not say in public. That's seems reasonable enough. However, in the AD AGE story, they seemed to indicate that they were influenced by a website called unfitforchildren.org. A site that just happens to be ran and funded by the Las Vegas Based, Culinary Workers Union, Local 226. So, it's only fair that we look at who those people are and what their motives might be.
It's not really news that the local 226 union has it out for Station Casinos, but it should be. Especially when they are creating a false narrative about the UFC and MMA to punish the Fertittas in regards to an unrelated issue. The website (unfitforchildren.org) is full of hyperbole and warnings. Even asking for people to sign petitions directed at Fox, and every other sponsor that is involved with the UFC.
Without even getting into the debate about unions, and whether we think they are a force for good, or an outdated albatross around the neck of the free market, we should all be a little annoyed that this union would attempt to use the tried and true "race", "sexism" and "homophobia" cards against the UFC because of their differences over another matter. To be clear, I'm not defending anything offensive that was said by anyone from the UFC, but that's a whole other issue.
The website is poorly laid out, and simply plays on the fears of unsuspecting parents that might wonder on to their website. In the end, I doubt it will have much impact on the UFC or their debate over Station Casinos, but as an MMA fan...it still pisses me of
