"When I started practicing martial arts, Chael Sonnen, doesn't start practicing in martial arts, he is a wrestler. So he doesn't know what martial arts is. It's respect. Respect for a country, respect for the people and respect toward human beings. Many times, people ask me, 'But isn't he promoting the fight?' Yeah, okay, but there are many different ways to do that. He did not respect our country, he disrespected my family and above all, he disrespected all the UFC audience and some people don't realize that. They find it great what he is doing. In my opinion, I think the best fight of the century would be myself and my clone, that's something I think will never happen. That doesn't mean I am the best, that means I would like to be beaten by someone, many other things may happen, much like Sonnen here. He beat me for five rounds, but he didn't do the most important thing which was to win. So, I am going to continue to do my job, I am going to practice really hard and I am going to try and bring this victory to Brazil."
At the UFC 148 pre-fight press conference, which went down on April 24, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Chael Sonnen declared that his bout with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva would be the biggest fight in combat sports history. It very well may be one of the biggest, considering their drawn-out rivalry that has been going on for the past two years (six if you ask Sonnen). Silva, however, begs to differ, seeing as how he feels that the only bout worthy of the fight of the century would be a fight against his very own clone. Scientist aren't quite there yet to make the fight a reality, so "The Spider" is going to have to settle for Sonnen, who he says was only wrestling while he was busy studying all of the martial arts. That wrestling, however, was almost enough to get the job done at UFC 117 when Chael battered the 185-pound champion for all of four and half rounds using his outstanding grappling skills as well as his overwhelming ground-and-pound. Ultimately, Sonnen came up short in his bid to claim the title as Anderson slapped on a fight ending triangle choke with a little over two minutes remaining in the fight. Now, Silva will have another chance to prove to the world that he is Sonnen's superior by attempting to defeat him for the second time as the two are set to face off at UFC 148 on July 7, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada, as headliner for the massive Fourth of July weekend event. In the process, Silva can finally rid himself of the trash-talking middleweight who has been in his ear for the past few years. Anyone think he will do it again, or will Sonnen's superior wrestling prevail this time around?
