"The plan is no (wrestling) but I'm not saying I'm completely against it. If he punches me in the head hard enough, you will see a wrestler jump out of me somewhere. The plan is not to go to the ground, it's to avoid it. Me, as a fan, I would rather see two guys punch each other in the head over and over again. Hopefully I'm not on the end of that. If it has to happen, it has to happen, but that's not the plan. The plan is to stand there and punch and kick each other until somebody gives up, quits or is unconscious."
Heavy handed heavyweight headhunter Pat Barry revels in his usual pre-fight talking points headed into his UFC on Fox 3 clash against Lavar Johnson on May 5, 2012, in New Jersey. The long and short of it is "HD" doesn't want the fight to go to the floor; instead he would like the same stand-n-bang style slugfest so many mixed martial arts (MMA) fans prefer. And considering his opponent has the same basic philosophical approach to combat, it looks like we're headed for fireworks on network TV. That's not to say wrestling won't play a factor at all, as Barry alludes to potential shooting for takedowns in the event he gets his clocked cleaned and needs time to regroup. As powerful as Johnson is, though, that may not even be an option. Either way, it sounds like these two are primed to deliver a fight the FOX network has been clamoring for since going into business with the UFC.
