Down with one Brazilian, up with another.
Unfortunately for Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, he's the one down, having suffered a knee injury in training that has forced him out of the UFC on FUEL TV 2 main event on April 14, 2012, in Sweden.
Stepping in to fill the void against Alexander Gustafsson is none other than Thiago Silva. This according to UFC.com:
Following a knee injury suffered in training for his April 14th bout against Alexander Gustafsson, Rogerio Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from the UFC on FUEL TV main event in Stockholm, Sweden. Stepping in for Lil' Nog will be another hard-hitting Brazilian, Thiago Silva, who is returning to the Octagon for the first time since January of 2011.
It's quite the turnaround for Silva, having spent more than one year on the sidelines for a failed drug test before getting booked in a main event of a UFC show on FUEL. The promotion's hand was forced, of course, but it's still an interesting decision.
Lots to gain, little to lose.
Gustafsson last fought just this past Dec. 30 in Las Vegas at UFC 141, a short but sweet bout that saw him defeat Vladimir Matyushenko via knockout inside the very first round. That drove the Swede's record up to 13-1 in just four years as a professional. This is the man many consider the guy who has the talent to develop into a monster enough to take down Jon Jones.
First, though, is Thiago Silva. Game on.
UFC on Fuel TV 2 takes place on April 14 in Stockholm, Sweden, and will be headlined by Gustafsson vs. Nogueira. Other interesting match-ups announced for the fight card include a middleweight tilt pitting Brian Stann vs. Alessio Sakara and a welterweight war between Paulo Thiago and Siyar Bahadurzada.
