When Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva isn't judging big Brazilian booty competitions, sponsoring blue-chip franchises like Burger King in commercials or lip-syncing/dancing to Justin Bieber ballads, he's apparently being marketed as a "regular guy" who likes to "hit things" for FOX Sports.
"The Spider" -- who got his much-anticipated date to rematch Chael Sonnen at UFC 147 at Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 23, 2012, earlier this afternoon -- was the centerpiece of recent promotional video for the UFC on Fox series.
And in addition to stopping washing machines, kicking cars and smashing concrete, Silva is speaking English. Sure, it's likely a slick voiceover job, but it's clear the network and the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion is attempting to finally market the sport's most dominant fighter to a North American audience in a major way.
What took so long?
