Bellator Fighting Championships returns TONIGHT (March 23, 2012) to the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Tx., with a new tournament.
MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of Bellator 62 below, beginning with the MTV2 telecast at 8 p.m. ET. In addition, we'll deliver up-to-the-minute quick results of all the undercard action much earlier in the evening.
The original main event, a heavyweight tournament finals bout between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos had to be scratched at the last minute for the second time after Santos failed to make weight and Prindle was awarded the tournament title without having to fight.
Also on the main card will be the remainder of the lightweight tournament which features a pair of former welterweight tournament participants who are dropping down in Rick Hawn, who will fight Brazilian Ricardo Tirloni and Brent Weedman, who will battle Tiger Muay Thai fighter J.J. Ambrose.

155 lbs.: Patricky Freire vs. Lloyd Woodard
Round one: The clinch immediately and trade knees in the center of the cage but Woodard lands one low. After the reset, Freire throws a nice left hand and Woodard fires back with a big punch of his own. Woodard clinches and Pitbull blasts him with a right hand. Both men miss wildly with big hooks and Woodard connects with a perfectly-timed straight right which drops Pitbull. Woodard picks Freire up and puts him down along the fence and drops some knees to the legs and body. Freire explodes to his feet and scores a takedown of his own but Woodard wall-walks back to his feet. They're clinching and Freire scores a very nice trip takedown and passes to full mount but Woodard sweeps him into full guard. This fight is terrific! Woodard tries to drop a huge right hand but Freire slips it. Woodard stakcs up Pitbull and drops down with a right hand. Freire sweeps him and escapes to hsi feet and Freire cracks Woodard with a huge righ thand which hurts him. Pitbull pushes forward and blasts Woodward with another pair of heavy shots and then scores a big takedown to follow up. Woodward is trying to use a Kimura to sweep and Freire answers with a Kimura attempts of his own from top position as time expires. Awesome round. 10-9 Freire
Round two: Freire opens with a nice left hand and he charges forward with a flurry but Woodard avoids it. They clinch and Woodard lands a nice knee and both men exchange with some very heavy blows. Pitbull connects with some huge right hands and then Woodard fires back. Woodard takes top position and drops hammer fists and Pitbull throws up an armbar. Woodard locks in a Kimura and rolls Freire over him. He's got Freire's head locked up with his own legs and he dislocates Freire's elbow which forces a tap. WOW what a fight!
Final result: Lloyd Woodard defeats Patricky Freire via submission (Kimura) at 1:46 of round two
155 lbs.: Rick Hawn vs. Ricardo Tirloni
Round one: Tirloni charges forward with a flying knee but it misses. Head kick misses for Tirloni and Hawn is pressing forward. Tirloni lands a nice outside leg kick and then another. Hawn tries to throw punches but Tirloni connects with more leg kicks. Hawn clinches but Tirloni fends him off. Big overhand right for Tirloni misses and Hawn cracks him with a counter right hand. Hawn closes the distance and lands a nice left hand on the way in but Tirloni throws a knee and backs off. Leg kick connects for Tirloni and Hawn blasts him with a HUGE right hand and Tirloni goes down hard. Hawn swarms Tirloni and puts him out big time with ground and pound. Wow, that was impressive.
Final result: Rick Hawn defeats Ricardo Tirloni via knockout at 2:36 of round one
155 lbs.: J.J. Ambrose vs. Brent Weedman
Round one: Ambrose steps in with punches and a head kick and Weedman drops him with a left hand. Weedman cracks Ambrose with another left hand and Ambrose closes the distance with a big takedown attempt. Ambrose is looking for a D'Aarce choke and Weedman rolls out of it, taking top position in the process. Weedman is in Ambrose's half guard but Ambrose retains guard and looks for a guillotine choke but Weedman escapes danger again and is in Ambrose's full guard. Weedman is working to pass guard but Ambrose pulls off a Kimura sweep. Ambrose steps over Weedman and Weedman cracks him with a huge pair of upkicks which knock Ambrose's mouthguard out. Ambrose goes down and Weedman takes full mount on him. Weedman postures up and drops a pair of punches. AMbrose gives up his back and Weedman is looking for a choke but he's pretty high up on Ambrose's back. Weedman has a body triangle tightly locked up and he drops some punches trying to soften Ambrose up. Weedman gives up on the choke and throws punches from top position as time expires in the round. 10-8 Weedman
Round two: Weedman comes in with a big kick but falls to his back and Ambrose takes top position. Not sure what he was doing there. Ambrose is again hunting for the D'Arce choke and Weedman sweeps over into side control and he escapes danger. Ambrose still has Weedman's head locked up and Weedman throws a nice knee to the body. Weedman traps Ambrose in a crucifix and he drops some left hands on Ambrose here. Now Weedman gives up the crucifix to look for a keylock. Weedman throws some very nice knees to the body from side control and Ambrose almost sweeps him but Weedman remains on top. Weedman has a ton of pressure on Ambrose and Ambrose taps out! I'm not even sure what Weedman had there. Will have to see the replay.
Final result: Brent Weedman defeats J.J. Ambrose via submission (Von Flue choke) at 3:26 of round two
155 lbs.: Thiago Michel vs. Rene Nazare
Round one: Nazare pushes forward with some pressure but Michel cracks him with a big right hand moving backwards and Nazare feels it, immediately transitioning to a takedown attempt. Nazare has Michel pressed against the fence and fails on a trip, throwing a few short knees to the thigh in the process. Michel fires back with a knee of his own but Nazare still has him pressed against the fence and we're at the halfway point of the round. They separate and Michel shows off some nice strikes and Nazare again closes the distance with 90 seconds left in the round. Nazare finally turns the corner with 55 seconds left and he's in top position on the ground. Michel's guard is closed and he's utilizing nice wrist control to control Nazare from bottom. Nazare throws a pair of left hands from top as time expires. 10-9 Michel
Round two: Michel is confident as we start and Nazare is no longer pressuring forward and he lands a nice counter. Michel works a push kick and then a big leg kick from distance and then a nice left hand. Michel is loosening up with his strikes here and Nazare shows some desperation and closes the distance but Michel fends him off. Michel lands some nice straight strikes and then a series of strong kicks but Nazare catches a kick and scores a takedown with just over three minutes left in the round. Nazare needs to make something happen here as Michel is doing a good job of stalling and the ref stands them up. Nazare isn't happy but he wasn't doing anything to keep the fight on the canvas. Michel presses forward with nice combinations, mixing in punches and kicks. Michel lands a head kick as Nazare tries to get inside and then a jumping knee but Nazare catches it. Michel throws up a big head kick with the other leg but it misses and Nazare takes top position but Michel works his way back to his feet and then connects with a huge uppercut along the fence. Michel swarms Nazare with a big flurry of strikes and Nazare clinches but gets shrugged off. nazare hunts for a double leg and scores a takedown in the final 10 seconds of the round. 10-9 Michel
Round three: Michel is stalking a bit here with a slower pace and he lands a nice leg kick. Nazare whiffs with a pair of kicks and Michel fires back with an inside leg kick. Nazare looks tired here, he closes the distance looking for a shot but he gives up on it halfway through. Nice leg kick from Nazare and Michel fires back with a counter left hand. More leg kicks from Michel and he's landing at will with his kicks from a distance. Nazare closes the distance and scores a double leg takedown. Nazare postures up and drops some short punches. He passes to half guard and Michel is all defense here. Nazare throws some hammer fists and he's hunting for an arm triangle as time expires. 10-9 Nazare
Final result: Thiago Michel defeats Rene Nazare via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
