Former Middleweight hopeful Dan Miller, who has struggled against the top 185-pound competition in the last few years, will shed 15 pounds and take on Ricardo Funch at UFC on FX 4 from the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., on June 22, 2012.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tonight (March 21, 2012) made the Welterweight bout announcement on its official website.

Miller, a "Garden State" native, has battled turmoil inside and outside the Octagon, losing a newborn child and then caring for an infant who was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease. All the while, he's attempted to reach his true mixed martial arts (MMA) potential that was evident when he made his promotional debut back in 2008.

Not easy.

After winning his first three UFC fights, Miller would go on to drop the same amount immediately thereafter. He picked up two wins against mid-level competition (John Salter and Joe Doerksen); however, he'd then lose back-to-back fights against Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares.

All told, Miller has compiled an even record (5-5) during his UFC tenure, which is not all that bad considering his other three losses were to standouts such as Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia and Michael Bisping. However, it's safe to assume that he is capable of performing better, which he will look to prove once and for all at 170 pounds.

Funch hasn't had much success at all since making his promotional debut against Johny Hendricks at UFC 109 back in Dec. 2009. He dropped a unanimous decision to "Big Rig" that night, which he followed up with two more losses to Claude Patrick and, most recently, Mike Pyle at 142 earlier this year.

During that span, the Brazilian took a fight against Ryan Quinn outside the organization, which he won; however, it's safe to assume that if he doesn't defeat Miller and get in the win column sooner rather than later, he might not be invited back so soon ... if at all.

UFC on FX 4 will feature a Lightweight showdown between Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida in the main even of the evening. In addition to Miller, other Jersey Boys such as Rich Attonito and Nick Catone, will be featured on the summer fight card, among others.
