Fabio Maldonado, who was forced to withdraw from the UFC 142 fight card earlier this year due to injury, has been re-booked to face fellow light heavyweight slugger Igor Pokrajac at the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event booked for May 15, 2012, at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
That's according to the Brazilian, who made mention of his latest pairing over at Tatame.com.
Maldonado (18-4) battered the belly of Kyle Kingsbury at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale nearly six months ago, landing brutal body blows throughout their 15-minute bout. However, it wasn't enough to sway the judges, as he went on to lose a disappointing unanimous decision.
In his only other fight for the promotion, the former professional boxer finished James McSweeney via technical knockout at UFC 120 way back in Oct. 2010.
Is this going to be his breakout fight?
Pokrajac (24-8) is currently on a two-fight winning streak after recently knocking out Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 140 back in December. He has good hands and a solid ground game, which accounts for his 21 finishes in 24 wins.
"The Duke" was originally paired off against Thiago Silva at UFC on FUEL TV 2, but an injury to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira got the Brazilian bruiser promoted to main event status opposite Alexander Gustafsson.
A quick line-up change, but still a couple of great fights.
UFC on FUEL TV 3 will be headlined by an electrifying featherweight fracas featuring Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung, the winner of which will go on to challenge Jose Aldo for the division's 145-pound strap.
