UFC 145: Phil Davis is rooting for Rashad Evans to defeat Jon Jones
Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans was recently made official as the main event title fight for UFC 145: "Jones vs. Evans" on April 21, 2012, live from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
And "Suga" has an unlikely cheerleader in his corner.
That's because Phil Davis, who was unable to stop Evans' date with destiny, is now hoping his former rival can break some "Bones" down south to ease the pain of watching his undefeated streak go up in smoke last month at UFC on Fox 3.
From his interview with Inside MMA:
"Good question. See, part of me wants to say I don't think he will win, but honestly, I think I'm rootin' for Rashad. I pretty much have to, because I lost to him. So, at this point, I'm gonna say he's gonna win."
Hear "Mr. Wonderful" talk "Jones vs. Evans" and a whole lot more, after the jump.

Jones Will Be Even Easier for Rashad
Doesn’t have near the wrestling that Phil does.

Jones actually knows how to use his reach...
I think Rashad has a chance but using Davies as a reference is short sighted. Jones is superior to Phil as a fighter.
"i don't think people change, change requires re-wiring and thats a lot to go through, i think they adjust and learn a better way of dealing with themselves and others ... they don't really change, they do selfless things to conform to an extent to the expectations of the ones they want in their lives ..." -Dis Vincent

I feel that Jones is leagues beyond Phil at the moment
Phil is a phenomenal athlete, but he has a lot of learning to do in regards to mma. He needs to learn how to use his reach better and strike better. When he gets to that level, he will be a force
unambig is an absolute welsh and nobody should ever sig bet this guy. He is a whiner and disgraced the sport by his childish, cry baby, antics. Hopefully he retires just like his whiny lover Nick "Im 7 years old" Diaz

MMA Wrestling vs College and Greco vs Folk/Free
Davis would have been an outstanding folkstyle or freestyle wrestler, he surely would have been an olympic hopeful and if this was a folkstyle or freestyle wrestling match, Davis would win, if it was submission grappling, I would pick Davis.
In MMA though, Davis has the best wrestling of anyone right now at the LHW level and possibly the sport. Davis has a great folkstyle base, he was a juco national champ, which means he had a good chance of going on to be an AA level wrestler at the NCAA level. We typically see the JUCO national champs at heavier weights, have great NCAA success.
What makes Jones so dangerous is the incorporation of Greco into his wrestling game. His frame allows him to utilize leverage in the clinch and combined with the foot-trips, and slams, like he used on Hammil, he sets himself up in excellent position to strike a downed opponent or work a crucifix to use strikes.
Greco Wrestling has simply translated better in MMA than has freestyle and folk – guys like Randy Couture, Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, and Matt Linland, have a folkstyle background, and a high level AA and all conference one at that, but it is their greco skills along with it, that have truly made them dangerous in the clinch and with under-hooks and dirty boxing. There have been plenty of guys with great college and Olympic free/folk pedigrees, but hasn’t translated as well as greco has.
Take a lap.

Even though I'm not a big Shad fan
I like his chances. he’s rolled with Bones, he’s quick, and he outwrestled Phil who’s a freak athlete.
I refuse to root against a former spartan
And I’ll never root for jones unless it’s against Henderson

Im not a Shad fan
But I think he will do well against Jones. I cant pick a winner, but Shad has impressed me with his ability to fight well against ppl that have a much longer reach than him. If Jones can keep the front kick in Shad’s chest, tho, Shad will have lots of trouble

I just don't know if anyone is close to figuring out Bones yet
I mean…if you keep your distance he will out-strike you…(that’s another concept I’m having trouble coming to terms with-outstrike)…and if you clinch with him, his guillotine is looking nasty and his Greco skills are pretty solid
You prett
I agree with that
The thing with Shad, tho, is that he is great at adapting to situations on the fly. He does great with people that have longer limbs that himself. I think that he will be able to counter Jones well… at least he will in the beginning. I think that he can hold Jones down and punish him too.
At the same, tho, I also feel that Jones has the ability to do the same thing. It will come down to who implements their game plan earliest. I have a feeling that Shad will be the aggressor and Jones will be timid for a couple rounds until he settles in. That could be the decider…

Im looking forward to it
First fight in a long time where I really think that anything can happen and Im not going to be leaning one way or the other on who will come out victorious

Davis looked like crap against Evans
It wasn’t even close. He had a “scared” look on his face the entire fight and obviously doesn’t like to get hit in the face (but then again, who does?) and I question why is he even making any statements after his performance.
I don’t see anybody stopping JBJ in 2012 as his reach and base makes him almost impossible to hit or take down.

He should have stopped right there.

after a few leg kicks to rashad it didn’t take him long to realize he wanted out of the cage..

Jones is going to be super tentative in this one
im picking Rashad….Shad seems really relaxed with nothing to lose…Jones is tripping and constantly says he wants this fight overwith as soon as possible so he can move on. Shad is in Jones’ head big time
well, he better be careful then. Rampage was said to be in his head, and he almost lost a kneecap for it.

Didn't Jones look super tentative against Machida??
that lasted for about 1 round……..he’s gonna destroy Rashad, no doubt.

I've hated most Davis fights I've seen
He had a couple cool submission but I can’t stand his fighting style. He seems long and awkward, king of flailing toward his opponent until he drags them down. Great technical wrestler but otherwise underwhelming.

While Rashad may have sparred with Bones, I expect him to get lit-up on the feet
I’m also not confident that Rashad can hold Bones down. For some reason I expect this to be the easiest win of his killing spree.
