UFC 143 medical suspensions and injuries for 'Diaz vs Condit' in Las Vegas

Ufcmedicalsuspensions_medium

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 143: "Diaz vs. Condit," which took place on Sat., Feb. 4, 2012, from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With several violent bouts on the under card, as well as Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson kicking the crap out of each other for 15 minutes on the pay-per-view (PPV) portion of the mixed martial arts (MMA) event, there were quite a few fighters who were flagged for follow up visits to their doctors.

Cheif among them is Werdum, who must be cleared by a physician for a leg injury -- one that most likely occurred kneeing Nelson in the face repeatedly -- or he won't be allowed to return until Aug. 3, 2012.

And he's the guy who won.

Ed Herman, Clifford Starks, Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, Michael Kuiper and even poor Edwin Figueroa -- who got his balls smashed by Alex Caceres in their bantamweight bout -- also got slapped with six-month suspensions. Nick Diaz, who chased Carlos Condit for essentially 25 minutes, unsurprisingly, did not make an appearance on the final post-fight trauma report.

Here is the complete list of UFC 143 injuries and their medical instructions:

Star-divide

Carlos Condit -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, because of a right cheek laceration
Fabricio Werdum -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a right quadriceps contusion; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.
Roy Nelson -- Suspended and no contact until April 5, 2012, because of a forehead laceration
Mike Pierce -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, because of a right eye laceration
Scott Jorgensen -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012
Ed Herman -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of potential injuries to both hands; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.
Clifford Starks -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of potential left hand injury to his fourth digit
Max Holloway -- Suspended until Feb. 26, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 19, 2012, because of a right eye contusion
Matt Riddle -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a broken right index finger; Minimum suspension until March 21, 2012, and no contact until March 6, 2012, because of a left eye laceration.
Henry Martinez -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a potential right foot injury; Minimum suspension until March 21, 2012, and no contact until March 6, 2012, because of a left nasal laceration.
Alex Caceres -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012
Edwin Figueroa -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a groin injury; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.
Chris Cope -- Suspended until April 5, 2012, and no contact until March 21, 2012
Michael Kuiper -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of potential left foot injury; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.
Dan Stittgen -- Suspended until March 21, 2012, and no contact until March 6, 2012

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

Diaz fights for 5 rounds in a championship match and doesn't even make the medical suspension list

Because his opponent ran for 5 rounds….

Condit fought smart but he didn’t fight like a champion. He fought like a bitch.

its called fighting smart!

I’m almost complete with my transformation…once they attach that donkey schlong on me, I will be able to satisfy myself like danago does all day long and change my name to Buck Angel II

I lost to Cruz Jackson. He’s the best. I padded his record and just a can. I talk shit to try and get replies when In reality I still play the original Halo on original XBOX like a religiously. I’m so totally awesome and straight and I act gay on a blog only because I’m the second loneliest mother fucker on Mania. First goes to Stallion. I want Shivan to lose to Cruz and Diaz to show how overrated he is. My favorite fighter is Josh Burkman. Thank You.

"i oilcheck need to take a reality check. What an imbecile i am to even think of going up against Scott1 with his perfect 1 and 0 sig record.I am already known as Manias biggest scumbag now i’ve got the moniker of a loser as well!TUT TUT SMH!!!"

I played 8=Danago in words with friends and he quit just like shogun.

All fighters should be forced to stand and bang.

None of that gay footwork, kicking, or wrestling shit…

There’s nothing in the rules that says a fighter has to stay in the pocket and fight to his opponent’s strengths.

The reason Diaz lost is because he CHASED Condit instead of cutting off the cage and landing strikes. Like it or not, Condit controled the pace and outcome of the fight with his movement. If Diaz didn’t like him circling away, he had 25 minutes to do something about it, but was content with trying to taunt and bait Condit into a Scott Smith style swing fest.

Don’t like how your opponent is fighting? Do something about it. It’s called MIXED martial arts for a reason. You’re probably the type of person who though Anderson should have grappled with Maia or Kos shouldn’t have taken Daley down.

Classy of you to call Condit a bitch like all the other butt-hurt Diaz fans, though.

You are for sure a dumbass bitch Diaz is not on the report because he didn't show up for the exam just like the puss quit failed to show up with a plan when Condit kicked his ass it wasn't even close!

Only the Moron die hard diaz foolish fans think other wise for three days now I have read hundreds of threads and not one real fan of MMA has thought Diaz won anything last Saturday.

Lindland, Miletich, Hendo, Pulver, Neer, Rousey, Coenen, Miller, McKenzie all fighters who thought Diaz won. Helwani had it 48-47 Diaz. It was a close fight, but to act like we’re idiots because we saw Diaz winning is ridiculous.

I'm a fan, it's not my favorite band, but I think there pretty good.

I also like NOFX, Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, Offspring, Green Day, Pennywise, The Ramones, Rancid, Tiger Army, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dropkick Murphys, Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Hives (only mentioning similar bands to The Vandals)

I love Yeah Yeah Yeahs. First heard them on Rockband on the Xbox 360, then I ended up buying one of their albums.

I was under the impression everyone got a suspension as precautionary?

with the purely precautionary able to get cleared as soon as a doctor’s apmnt. could be made.

You have been banned from Bloody Elbow.
I don’t know what you said, but I don’t like you.

Good point. In fact, I bet Diaz refused to be seen by a doctor.

So perhaps he could not officially be medically suspended, if he indeed skipped out on a post fight doctor checkup. I’ve never seen anyone NOT get suspended. Precautionary is usually the minimum.

That’d explain why he is not on the list.

by makaveli158 on Feb 6, 2012 8:35 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah.

It seems bizarre that he’d have nothing, seeing as that was a pretty reasonably-sized cut on his cheek.

Lmao at the scratchmarks on diaz from condits toenails.

Nick Diaz, who chased Carlos Condit for essentially 25 minutes

I lost a sig bet with enzo-enormous.
