Am I the only one who sees Anderson crushing Sonnen in the rematch?

I say that because; of the difference between his performance against Silva then his performance against Bisping. *Not to say Bisping is a slouch* (Stann was overmatched and didn't have any smart gameplan to stop Sonnen's wrestling) But; it seemed like Sonnen doesn't have the same strength and endurance as his first bout with Silva. I honestly suspect TRT or PED usage may be a factor; seeing as he probably was on less after the debacle after the fight with Silva. Second; I see Silva drilling TD defense like it's his job.*pun intended* If he manages to stuff a few shots, chances are Sonnen will be dis-heartened. Plus; I'm sure Silva's BJJ is only getting better. So if Silva can manage to stop some takedowns and keep the fight standing, then Sonnen is in deep shit. Plus, on the ground Silva still has the ability to sub him... Thoughs?!

You're the only one who sees that because the rest of us know the fight will never happen.

If we understood Portuguese, we would all have heard Silva, as they carried him back to the locker room, quoting the words of the legendary Apollo Creed, “Ain’t gon’ be no rematch! Ain’t gon’ be no rematch!”

I see Silva winning.

And not because Sonnen can’t cheat this time. More so because Silva knows he can lose this fight now unlike last time he almost found out too late. Sonnen doesn’t have the element of surprise as much as before, that being said Silva has his work cut out for him no matter what.

Now, count up your crimes!

Was discussing this with some buddies during 143

Money on Anderson is good money.

I’m looking fwd to seeing a testosterone controlled Chael take on a better prepared Ando. I have a feeling Chael won’t survive the 5 rounds.

To be honest though, i thought Bisping did enough to beat Chael so i’d almost be happier seeing the count go toe to toe with the spider. Bisping is a fighter that has steadily improved his game and is arguably at the elite level, but i suppose this is a discussion for another time and a different thread.

Yes, i think Silva gets the W.

Silva wins this one in pretty pedestrian fashion. I would say KO in the second round. Sonnen already had his perfect storm and still got finished. Sonnen is not the fighter everyone gives him credit for. He has a marginally over .500 record and has NEVER had a KO or TKO in his UFC career. People are listening to the talk and not seeing the reality of this guy. I guess it speaks volumes about Sonnen’s PR genius that he was able to pull this off.

The reality is he handed it to Silva for almost 5 rounds.

Anyone that thinks Anderson is going to go from getting dominated , to dominating is delusional. He may still win, but Sonnen will dominate again until he makes another mistake.

Anyone who took the Bisping fight as a reason to think that Anderson is going to beat Sonnen let alone dominate him is an idiot. Bisping unlike Anderson has good takedown defense and scrambles, Silva can get taken down by the wind blowing on him. And Sonnen who had a really bad weight cut and was dehydrated will be at his best in the rematch and the only difference this time will be that he’ll dominate all 25 minutes instead of just 23.

People can make all the excuses, justifications and delude themselves all they want but Sonnen is the worst possible match up for Silva. And just like The Giants went on to smash the Patriots in their rematch after losing to them in the regular season. Anderson’s time is up and in June there are going to be more tears and crying than the last couple of days have from Diaz fanboys combined.

Uhm

You’re delusional. Sonnen only got like 3 takedowns off of actually shots/ double-legs. The rest were off kicks. Silva wont make the same mistake twice with kicks. And another point is he looked physically weaker then before. Silva manhandled Okami; who is very srong. Sonnen offers nothing new; and is a one trick poney. If you think Silva wont be drilling his TD defense thats crazy. Besidez; it’s not like Sonnen’s sub-defense will improve.

Jon Jones and Anderson Silva are top 2 p4p.

by JRATZ7 on Feb 7, 2012 1:54 AM EST up reply actions

I must have missed Sonnen looking so weak in the third round of a tough fight in which he had by far his best round. I also must have missed him dominating Stann after a very long lay off, serioulsy how much more reaching will you Silva fans continue to do to justify what happened to Anderson in the first fight.

Sonnen’s one trick is the only trick he needs against Silva who can’t stop his takedowns and won’t be able to get up from Sonnen when he’s on the ground. Okami isn’t Sonnen, he was mentally beaten in the first round, Sonnen doesn’t buy the hype and will do exactly what he did to him in the last fight punch him in the face and take him down and gnp him. Only this time when he’s dominating him and about to close the show he won’t let his guard down and let a last minute triangle cost him the belt.

The hype?

The hype of Silva beating every challenger, or destroying Okami who Sonnen so adamantly said would manhandle Silva… Or the hype that Silva subbed Sonnen? Or the hype that Bisping beat the bricks off Sonnen? Or the hype that Sonnen is a cheater, and arrogant prick?

Jon Jones and Anderson Silva are top 2 p4p.

by JRATZ7 on Feb 7, 2012 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

Bisping beat the bricks off Sonnen, seriously is there no end to the bs you Silva kool-aid drinkers keep putting out as facts. Keep living in this delusional world where Silva is untouchable and won’t get taken down and dominated again and after Sonnen beats Silva in June come talk to me.

Okami was too intimidated to follow the gameplan

To beat Silva you have to pressure him from the opening bell. If you “feel him out” like Okami and most of his opponents have done, he’ll have you figured out to a “t”. Notice how Silva always spends the first 2-3 minutes just studying his opponent from range. The guys who’ve put him in trouble were the ones who never gave him that 2-3 minutes, who came right at him. Sonnen & Hendo weren’t afraid, kept the pressure on him, and were winning the fight (till Hendo gassed and Sonnen got sloppy).

And

You’re saying don’t make exscuses for Silva? But Sonnen had a bad weight cut? C’mon, stop being delusional. Sonnen isn’t near as strong as he was while on TRT or PEDS. He; will have nothing new to offer Silva. One fighter can adapt in a fight. We saw; that Sonnen can’t.

No. I think that Sonnen will fight a bit smarter on the ground but Silva will still get the W. I’m just looking forward to the Sonnen hype train to get rolling. I could use a good laugh

by marcbjr2 on Feb 7, 2012 10:39 AM EST reply actions

no, it will be a close fight and you can quote me on it

without regulation, both of them will be jacked up on peds.

you can’t really say sonnen will be befuddled if silva stops the takedown (which he wont) since chael has a pretty badass chain wrestling approach and i seriously doubt (i’d bet money on it) that silva won’t get any more good at stoping them.

the harder silva practices tdd, the quicker his strenght (striking) goes to shit. He needs that loose stance in order to be effective, he goes stiff on his back leg, he’ll lose quickness and strenght.

i see silva taking the decision by way of being the local, if they fight is stoped, it will be due to sonnen new found submission game.

and again, quote on me that

pride never die.

You failed to make your case

You’re telling me Anderson is going to win a more one-sided victory based on:

1. Sonnen didn’t look as good against Bisping, which you are implying is related to the lack of PED usage.

2. Anderson has better BJJ since their first meeting?

I would just throw out number 2 immediately. No evidence of improving BJJ (he hasn’t even used it in a fight since Chael Sonnen and I haven’t heard of him preparing for ADCC). Point 1 is highly skeptical as well. he didn’t look at great against Bisping, but he claims he got caught early with a punch and never fully recovered.

You may be right about Silva winning easily the second time around, but in my opinion you provided no evidence or thought-provoking insights to convince me or likely anyone else.

by otherdarkmeat on Feb 7, 2012 12:33 PM EST reply actions

Well

1.Anderson knows what to expect this time time.

2. He still has great BJJ.

3.Sonnen seems not to improve his sub-defense. Maia, Silva, even back in the day he was getting triangled.

4. Silva will have a smart gameplan. Sonnen did land most takedowns off of kicks, not actual takedown shots alone.

5. Silvas striking will still be amazing; if the fight stays up even a minute longer each round Sonnen is in trouble. Especially if Bisping rocked him.

Jon Jones and Anderson Silva are top 2 p4p.

by JRATZ7 on Feb 7, 2012 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

I think it'll be about the same

I’ve heard this argument be made a lot about Sonnen not having a chance against Silva because he had a close fight with Bisping, one that some even think he won.

I saw Sonnen winning it unquestionably. It was close, but I thought 29-28 Sonnen was the correct score and it was the same all around, I believe. What most people overlooked was that Sonnen was actually competitive boxing with Bisping.

Bisping and Silva are two very different opponents. I think the first fight with Silva showed that Sonnen is tough enough to withstand Silva’s striking. Of course, he’ll want to take it to the ground because a standup only fight will increase the chance of a KO. Now, if he does get the takedown (which I think he will because Silva is not as good of a defensive wrestler as Bisping imo), and can keep him there (which I also think he will because Silva is more content with retaining guard and throwing subs whereas Bisping is among the best at getting up off his back), then Sonnen will be winning rounds with his control. If that becomes the case, Silva will need a finish. Which he has a very good chance of getting, like in the first fight.

by lordrubbish on Feb 7, 2012 3:52 PM EST reply actions

no I've always said Silva's ribs were hurt....

Silva’s takedown defense is stellar… not that sonnen couldnt take him down n control him, but in this fight silva went directly to his back and never tried to stand

True

Thats could have played part in their first fight. Broken/cracked ribs hurt your stamina, and ability to react and move 100%. I’ve had a broken rib from doing MMA, I’m not talking out my ass.

Jon Jones and Anderson Silva are top 2 p4p.

by JRATZ7 on Feb 7, 2012 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, broken ribs were a big factor

But I don’t believe Silva/Soares bs about the injury happening in practice. Chael busted that rib in the first round. Still, unless he does the same thing in the beginning of the rematch, we could be looking at a very different fight.

Another big factor was Chael’s no-hesitation pressure that never gave Andy a chance to figure out his timing on the feet. Silva’s style depends heavily on his timing and instincts and his ability to study his opponents movements and reactions in the opening minutes of the fight. Chael never gave him that chance and Silva never had time to figure him out.

This fight could go either way.

Silva’s takedown defense is stellar?, seriously where do you people get this stuff. Did you not see him get taken down by a zombie Travis Lutter?, Silva has no takedown defense and Sonnen is the best wrestler in mma. He’s getting taken down at will just like last time and I can’t wait to hear all of the excuses and justifications you people make then.

Wow

Y’know Sonnen nuthugging can be hazardous to your health.

He’s a great wrestler, but has horrible submission defense. That sucks when you fight someone with high level BJJ, and the best striking in the UFC. Especially when even being on PED’s and TRT couldn’t prevent you from being subbed before.

seriously you're still living in 2007....

cause that’s when he fought lutter… his takedown defense has progressively gotten way better since then… if u can’t see that, you’re not watching close enough.
