UFC 143: Bruce Leeroy admits ball bashing, but claims Figueroa was also 'milking it'

Alex Caceres (right) loses two points for going nuts on Edwin Figueroa. Photo courtesy of Josh Hedges for Zuffa LLC via Getty Images.

Alex Caceres is removing the inside leg kick from any and all future attacks.

This way, the former "Ultimate Fighter" won't have to worry about losing a decision when his opponent "milks" a nut shot, like he claims Edwin Figueroa did in their bantamweight brawl at UFC 143 last Saturday night in Las Vegas.

"Bruce Leeroy" vents to Sherdog.com:

"To be honest with you, I don't know what the hell was going on in that fight. I was pretty surprised that any of that happened. I was aware of the low blows I delivered and I have to admit, the first and second low blow did not land in his crotch. I believe he was milking it a little bit. I mean, he even admitted it a little bit, saying that the second one wasn't even a low blow, it was vibrations from the low kick that hurt his groin. I was surprised because I never heard of a two-point deduction. Ever. Herb Dean did warn me after the first time but then again I thought it was a glancing blow, it wasn't as bad as they were making it out to seem. It's pretty disappointing, it's pretty frustrating, but the decision's made. What I can do is just get back in the gym and never throw inside leg kicks again because apparently, they're gonna milk it for all they got."

Caceres breaks down their fight, plus a whole lot more, after the jump.

Maybe a warning the 1st time? And then just 1 point the 2nd time? IDK, its just such a detriment to the other fighter that I can't get on Herb for that.

It obviously effected his performance, the first one landed so early in the fight.

but if thats the case just do no warning, 1 pt per infraction is fine by me. But 2 outta the blue?

I liked the call bc taking two hard shots like that kills you!

So now the rest of the fight you are at a major disadvantage. Getting a warning and then one point puts the kicker at an advantage and he’s the one that made the infraction. I was surprised by the call, but liked it and hope we see it more often! Maybe we won’t see so many groin shots! Also, guys need to wear metal cups!

Dean needs to stay consistent and lost some of his rep on that card.

I thought that this was the easiest super bowl betting ever!!!

I made so many bets with the Giants getting 3, Giants straight and the under! Can’t believe they were getting 3!!! I was so sure of my bets which I why I made so many of them! For the past 2 weeks every time I went on the computer I would bet a little more each time. Ended the year so fn nicely!!! Won money in the past 6 weeks, wish every year would end that way! I’m cashing out bc if I don’t I will lose it all in MMA! Used to do well in Basketball, but I just don’t follow it that much these days. What a great fn game!!! Even though I had so much on the Giants and I’m from NY (Jets fan though) I kinda wanted the Pats. Only bc you have some retards saying that he’s better than his brother! Actually the biggest fn retard of them all was this guy Rob on ESPN First Take this morning saying that Eli is better than Brady!!! What?!?!? Are you fn kidding me!!!??? He also said that Brady is done and will never win a Super Bowl again! lol OK bud, he just brought a team with the worst fn defense to the Super Bowl and if it weren’t for some horrible dropped passes would have won it!

he’s only seeing it from his point of view, that the opponent will milk nut shot to get points taken. what about the fighters who are constantly doing infractions because they know they can get away with it? fighters like Kongo are known for hitting opponents in the balls multiple times a fight sometimes. learn to throw a more accurate inside kick, knee etc. there are fighters who throw those techniques all the time and aren’t hitting their opponent in the balls every fight

2 points from Alex was absolutely horsecrap.

no real injustice here...

Figueroa did next to nothing to win, but let’s chalk that up to the nutshots. But Caceres was shocking in his level of incompetence. He looked like he’s been training subs with GSP! Figueroa did nothing to win but neither did Caceres. Idk much about Figs, but Idgaf about that poser Caceres. Never liked him since the show & he’s done nothing career-wise or otherwise to change my opinion. Fuck him.

IDK I though the 2 point deduction was a bit much

Figueroa DID try to pretend he got hit (after the 1st nutshot, before the 2nd nutshot) there was a point where he was pretending to be hurt and Herb Dean said ‘that hit your leg’ or something to that effect. Not if everyone caught that, but I did, So it makes you wonder.

here's the article I put up directly following the decision, and to be honest, this ruling bothered me much more than Condit getting the decision:

UFC 143 Results: Alex Caceres Loses Fight Due To Inconsistent Refereeing:

Let’s not beat around the bush here, the reason Alex Caceres lost this evening at UFC 143 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center is because of inconsistency.

Referee Herb Dean issued a “very strong warning” after Caceres landed a low blow early in the 1st round. Although it was a direct hit and landed hard, there is no such thing as a ‘very stern warning’ to my knowledge. A warning, is a warning, is a warning. We have seen countless occasions where a low blow connects and no point is deducted. We have seen a 2nd land with no deduction. And even a third.

But we’ve never seen a 2 point deduction at the same time. Caceres landed another low blow the following round and referee Herb Dean gave Figueroa his time to recooperate from the blow, then deducted 2 points from Caceres at one time. I have never seen this before in my entire fight viewing history. Perhaps somebody else that’s more savvy with a computer could point me the direction of another instance this occurred?

Yet another example of just what inconsistency in the sports officiating results in.

In any event, it ultimately was the deciding factor of the bout as Caceres lost a split decision to Edwin Figueroa, 28-27.

yeah, I was pretty infuriated

It’s a bs call. A nutshot is a nutshot. You can’t rule one any worse than another if they’re not deliberate and are to be considered accidents, how can one be more punishable than anothers?

cant point to it in MMA..

But seeing as they share a lot of the same officials & I think they rule the same, but I’ve seen that in boxing with the 10 point must before when a ref is of the opinion that the fighter has deliberately & willfully inflicted a foul. And the cases I remember where fairly outstanding fouls too. Mills Lane took 2 points off of Tyson for biting Holyfield & I think the ref of Golota vs Bowe took 2 when Golota threw a 3 punch combo into Bowes crotch.

well yeah, that's boxing

And its also isolated incidents. The Tyson ear bite hadn’t happened before, and its definitely bizarre. I can see that as its a judgment call on something we hadn’t seen.

i only mention those as they are the most outstanding incidents..

I’ve seen it in others with flagrant low blows or strikes behind the head. I’m only using the boxing comparison bcuz it seems the scoring system in MMA is still basically modeled after boxing imo.

Pity the Diaz storm in a teacup detracted from this travesty

A 2 point deduction is as good as deciding the fight. To win after that, you have to be Superman or get a stoppage. Dean decided his fight, not skill, and that contravenes what fighting sports are all about. If he felt so strongly about the kicks (and I can;t imagine why he would as they were accidental), he should have simply disqualified him.

As a fighter, I’d rather have a loss by DQ on my record, with everybody knowing I was the better man, than a loss by decision.

by Motmaitre on Feb 6, 2012 5:40 PM EST reply actions

this should be the new rule

If someone accidently kicks his opponent in the balls more than once it the fight, the other guy gets to deliver one himself. a kick that hard has to take alot out of you for sure.

by augiechimpo on Feb 6, 2012 6:40 PM EST reply actions

Herb screwed up lets be honest.....

Herb pretty much ensured Alex would lose the match with a 2 point deduction. I have watched MMA for a while now and I have never seen 2 point being deducted from a fighter. I disagree with Alex in that the first kick didn’t land low. It sure as hell did, It sounded like a home run on Wrigley field. Plus Alex really needs to drop rear naked chokes altogether. I watched this kid try for 7 mins to sink in a rear naked choke with no success. He should have locked in an armbar and called it a night. But Herb should have no taken 2 points.

Milking it?

GTFO with that this is coming from a guy who shouldn’t even be in the UFC lord knows how or why the hell he got so many chances after losing his 1st 2 fights that were not even close. “Glancing” he should watch it again and hear how they sounded both of them the first shot to the nuts sounded like a gun shot! plus he damn near got his head kicked off after that. Oh by the way I think it came out yesterday that the nut shots caused a testicular contusion yeah that sounds like he was milking it. 2 points wasn’t even should have been a automatic DQ
