Victory is sweet. Celebrating it with your wife even sweeter.
Carlos Condit earned a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz last night (Sat., Feb. 4, 2012) in the main event of UFC 143 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and shortly after hit "Sin City" hard to bask in his glory.
Even if there are still fans who don't agree with it.
That didn't stop "The Natural Born Killer" from having a good time. The Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz party may have been spoiled but Condit is going to keep on keeping on.

i agree with you man. nick won that fought. i guess octagon control, being aggressive and initiating or at least trying to engage the other fighter doesn’t count for crap.

I thought Diaz won 1,2 and 5 but the judges didn’t. Soured the spectacle for me but I bet Condit doesn’t feel that at all. He got the win so, good job I guess.

Diaz didnt have any of those things. If he had Octogon control then Condit wouldnt have been able to counter and circle. For aggression to count then you have to be able to stop the defensive fighter. Cant initiate if you cant catch him. Diaz tried to push the pace and Condit controlled it. When Diaz realized his gameplan wasnt working he should have used another tool he has, GROUND GAME. But no he would rather use his plan that wasnt working and then bitch when he didnt finish the fight or change the way he was fighting.

Apparently. And rightly so.
You shouldn’t get marks for effort, in my opinion. You should get marks for scoring. Being aggressive is completely meaningless from a tactical standpoint. Many fighters have lost as a result of being too aggressive. Ali’s destruction of George Foreman is the most famous example.

Don't understand the controversy
Over this fight, yeah Nick backed him up but that’s the only way Diaz knows how to fight standing. Condit did EXACTLY what he wanted to do by taking the legs out early so that later in the rounds Diaz quits that stockton stalking he is known for. Condit did a great job by listening to his coaches and implementing his game plan so that Diaz couldn’t implement his considering everyone knows what it is. I don’t get it, just look at how many strikes were landed Carlos landed more. Where the fuck is the confusion… Think people are just used to Diaz always winning and have never seen his game plan finally not work, lol.

I think there's some beef with FightMetric too
Condit took total strikes but Diaz took total head & body shots and the general consensus is head/body > legs. The thing is, Condit wasn’t THAT far behind in those areas. So if head shots were competitive (as in within a dozen strikes), body shots were competitive, and he blew Diaz away with leg kicks, well…there’s the striking advantage right there.

Condit fought a smart fight Diaz was dumb enough 2 fall for his game plan. I’m rooting for condit against gsp but after that it’s guna be kinda hard for me 2 root for a point fighter.

Disagree. Diaz could have focused on takedowns from the opening round to work his bjj and not so much his striking. I think the controversy is due to a case of the fight not living up to the hype. Condit won the fight based on body and leg kicks. I dont think that defines a dog fight but thats what he was claiming it would be. Reminds me of Jones/ Rampage but after 3 rounds Jones was able to do enough damage with leg kicks to finish Rampage. Alot of people are saying well Codit is smart not to let diaz punch him in the face. Thats true but he could have took more risks to land some power punches he did knock out a few strikers after all. I think alot of fans would not want to pay for a ppv like this. It would not be a big deal if it was free but is not. Is not a local show. That said I cant wait to see Gsp/Condit.

Let’s break this down:
I never thought I’d say Joe Rogan is in on the obvious conspiracy against Nick Diaz. As I was listening to the commentary I couldn’t help but notice several inaccuracies about shots ‘landed’ from Condit. He called combinations that were actually one shots. He failed to mention at least 3 or 4 effective body to head combos thrown by Diaz as he was pressing Condit into the cage. I saw Condit’s head snap back hard many times, yet Rogan and Goldberg only mentioned about 30% of what was actually landed by Diaz. Condit ran practically the whole fight. I only gave one round to Condit. Condit missed every one of his spinning back fists. Out of 9 or 10 attempted he might have landed one, but I don’t even think he managed that. Even when they played back fight clips, they were clearly in favor of Condit. Diaz blocked so many of Condit’s punches and kicks yet Rogan and Goldberg kept seeing them as effective strikes. I’m not saying Nick didnt get caught a few times but it was perfectly clear to me that Rogan and Goldberg were biased in their commentary as they were obviously leaning toward Condit when calling this fight. I think much of the audience felt the same way because I all I heard were boos when Condit was delivering his cheesy, ass kissing plastic victory speech. If the brass at the UFC are smart, they’ll realize the entertainment value of Nick Diaz and figure out different ways to promote his fights. It’s clear to me as well that Diaz doesn’t feel too comfortable speaking on camera or to the media in general, but as a fighter he’s one of the most skilled and entertaining in MMA period. I would pay to see Diaz fight. Condit…uhhh, not so much. I read a post on a site earlier that stated a perfect nickname for Condit. Carlos ‘Gump’ Condit-because all he did was RUN.
I hope the UFC does the right thing and 1, pays Diaz the money he deserves, and 2, figures out another way to promote his fights. MMA and the sports entertainment industry will be losing one of it’s true best if Diaz really does retire.

Maybe Nick should have tried to take it to the ground when taunting/smacking/and holding Condits leg way past the bell didnt work. But instead they both stuck to their plans and Diaz lost.

Got to say that Condit fought smart. Everything has been said in this thread, but Diaz fans are a thick skulled as he is. Condit landed more damage, call it a conspiracy, but one of my favorite lines from Diaz was when he complained that you could tell who won the fight by looking at the two guys faces but the judges don’t always get it right. Condit outlanded Diaz, and their faces showed that. Diaz could have whipped Condit on the ground, but he was too thick skulled to go with his best advantage. Doesn’t mean you’re a better fighter if you’re too dumb to think about how to win.

I don't understand...
Like is this Mixed Martial Arts or a boxing match? All these boxing fans are saying Condit was running when he was implementing a effective gameplan because he knew that Diaz was going to start his “Stockton stalking”. That said, Condit took the legs out early which therefore led to Diaz slowing down drastically in the later rounds. Not to mention Condit landed atleast 2x more strikes. People have never seen Diaz lose like this, and everyone wants to make it “Controversial” because Condit didn’t stand in the pocket like a boxer and BANG until someone stopped moving. That isn’t MIXED MARTIAL ARTS YOU DUMB FUCKS! Great win for Carlos and I’m not really a fan of either if anything I like Nick more.

He didnt have to stand in the pocket. You contradict yourself. Its mixed martial arts not boxing which means there are plenty of ways to finish a fight not just kickboxing to a decision. If he took his legs out early why not come from the outside with power combinations or since “he took his legs out” like you said why not take him down and make it a more dominant win. Its the ufc not just mma so fights have to be entertaining to more than anything new fans.
