Nick Diaz gets found out

So in his first fight against a legit top WW Diaz get's beat, no surprise there, I was never one to buy into the Diaz hype train. He is a very 1 dimensional fighter with good punches and good submission skills against lower tier fighters, nothing more, nothing less, and when you fight against the elite that's not going to cut it. I have been saying for ages that GSP would have EASILY beaten Diaz, and this result only proves it, as Condit made easy work of Diaz. Some Diaz fans are trying to make excuses saying there is no way Condit won that fight, which is just basic fan boy bias, Condit clearly won that fight, and secondly even if Diaz won the fight, if it wasn't impressive enough or emphatic enough to convince the judges and many other fans, then what's his chances against the best WW out there in GSP? Does anyone actually think Diaz' sloppy fight last night would even be remotely good enough to beat GSP? We all know the answer, GSP VS Diaz was all based on HYPE, nothing more, nothing less, as Diaz himself admitted, he had to to talk trash because that's what get's him the title shot, and as he said, it worked.

But the good thing is we will actually get a legit WW championship fight now, as Condit VS GSP is not simply based on hype, but that Condit deserves to be in there with GSP and brings the skills to be able to give GSP a legitimate challenge.

all he does is throw his punches for a brawl. he has some submission skills, but it won’t work against the top tier fighters. :-)

I agree. BJ Penn is not a top WW. He retired basically because he was a man without a weight class. Edgar pretty much put an end to his LW career and BJ has never been very good at WW. He just is too small for todays WWs.

He would still fare better at LW.

I think he could potentially beat everyone there but Edgar, and even still I would never 100% count him out of a matchup with Frankie because their first fight was pretty close. And he just didn’t seem himself in the rematch.

actually he retired cause he is a whiney little bitch!

everyone has a wieght class. BJ does this all the time, how many times has he said he is done?, numerous! He just does it cause he reacts irrationally after fights in which he gets his ass kicked. First he congradulates and says good job, then he says he may retire a month later when its all set in he starts making excuses for the loss and trash talking. It never ends with him!

by HEELHOOK on Feb 5, 2012 10:19 AM EST up reply actions

lol

I was actually going to mention this excuse Diaz fans would give….Bj is NOT A WW, he is LW fighting in WW, he is very small in the WW and there was a major size advantage between Penn and Diaz, secondly Bj’s fighting style plays right into Diaz’ hands, which is to just stay standing in front of him and to throw punches, that helped Diaz a lot. But as we saw with Condit, when a fighter refuses to play Diaz’ game Diaz looks SHIT.

any relevance from the start, it was all hype pure and simple, Diaz himself ADMITTED that he talked trash on purpose because that’s what he has to do to get the title shot and as he also admitted, it worked. I wanted to Diaz to win so he could’ve gotten his ass handed to him by GSP to silence all the Diaz lovers who actually believed that he was on the same level as GSP. But Diaz is too sh!t to even earn himself a shot at GSP, which in of itself testifies to the fact that he has no business stepping in the cage with GSP. Are you for real?

LOL you actually name Daley and Lawler as if that makes Diaz special? LOL! Submission victories? Yes, against chumps, but against LEGIT TOP CALIBRE WW’s it ain’t happening my friend.

Diaz is out of his league in the UFC, he never stood a chance against Condit, and he never in a million years stood a chance against GSP who would have easily beaten him. Diaz has no tools to overcome the likes of these WW’s, and the proof of what I’m saying was witnessed last night, Diaz tried to submit Condit, even had his back, but failed miserably, you see when you face LEGIT fighters and not some chump, then it’s much tougher to submit them.

But God I really can’t believe you mentioned Daley as if it’s an accomplishment to beat Paul Daley, nice one.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 9:21 AM EST up reply actions

Daley and Lawlor are bums striking now and BJ isn’t a top WW when he’s allowed to fight on the feet (and therefore not be as gassed by being out muscled). Gomi was a bum at the time also. Love this

They Are Bums

Yes, they are bums, stop joking to yourself my friend, you are ACTUALLY TRYING to put Daley out there as a legit guy who really counts, lollllllllllllll.

Gomi was a good win, but how long ago was that? The game’s moved on since then and Gomi SUCKS right now in the UFC, just like Diaz sucks, the game’s moved on and neither of the 2 have moved on with the times.

As for BJ, he is not a WW, everyone can see that in his size, where you blind? Did you not see the size difference between BJ and Diaz in their fight? Bj is a LW, that’s where he belongs, that’s where he made his name, and that’s where he built his legacy, so to even try to act like beating him at WW is something special is a JOKE.

Facts are facts, when Diaz DID FIGHT A TOP 5 WW in Condit, he LOST, end of story.

But you are right

Diaz beats Daley and Lawler, while GSP is out there beating the likes of Shields, Koscheck, Fitch, Alves, Hughes, and all the other top WW contenders of the world, soon going to add Condit to that list as well. Thanks my friend, you just showed the gulf in class, and the difference in the 2, one beats chumps, the other beats legit top quality fighters.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 9:23 AM EST up reply actions

This thread is coming off as trollish

Diaz is an elite level welterweight, not one dimensional at all, and he does have good wins even if people want to discount the level of competition. There’s a reason why so many professional fighters had him picked to win, and I’m sure there’s discontent at all levels of the sport, the fans, about who won the fight.

It’s a lot like Penn vs. Edgar I, you’re going to have people on both sides of the issue.

Don’t downplay Diaz just because you dislike him. I am a bigger fan of Condit than Diaz, I’ve always liked Diaz in the fight but I have never liked his attitude, and throwing a temper tantrum at the end of the fight didn’t impress me.

Elite Welterweight?

Based on what? He hasn’t beaten any solid WW in the last few years. He has beaten:

-Bj Penn (not even a WW)
-Paul daley, (lol, get real)
-Evangelista Santos, (Average fighter, not elite class)
-Kj Noons (lol, get real, and Noons isn’t even a WW is a LW)
-Hayato Sakurai (another average fighter, not elite, plus he was a 2 fight losing streak, and would go on a 4 losing fight streak)
-Marius Zaromskis (another average fighter, not elite)
-Scott Smith (lol, yeah, move on)
-Frank Shamrock (A fighter past his prime and peak, and also fighting outside his established weight class)
-Thomas Denny (lol, get real)
-Mushin Corbbrey (same as above)
-Katsuya Inoue (lol, a top elite fighter eh)

So get real folks, Diaz has not fought and beaten any legit WW, he came up against a legit WW in Condit and lost, Diaz is not an elite fighter, and when he loses his next UFC fight (unless he quits like a loser which will just prove he isn’t elite because real elite fighters don’t quit when it gets tough now do they) everyone will see that. Go on, throw him in with either Koscheck, Fitch, or Hendricks.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

His skills far outstretched theirs in those fights

He dominated Penn who even if he isn’t a true welterweight(and I’m a big BJ Penn fan) , is still better skill wise than many of the WW in the UFC who has a better than good chance against 75% of them.

And this fight against Condit, it was a close fight against a fighter who is one of the best in the world, it’s not like he was defeated soundly, it was controversial for a lot of people. I give the fight to Condit, but I can see the case for Diaz because I am trying to be impartial.

It isn’t that he just won those fights, he dominated them, and that is something. Everyone in the cage/ring is the same thing, 85% water, 212 bones and a brain, any fighter on any given night can win.

If the judges had scored the fight differently last night how would you feel about a Diaz victory?

I think the truth lies somewhere in between......

I agree with sz87 that Diaz has feasted on a steady diet of mediocre fighters, which is a luxury he can no longer enjoy if he continues to compete in the UFC……but I also think he’s a little better than sz87 is giving Diaz credit for…….he wasn’t winning all those fights by split or UD decision…..he was dominating his opponents, and deserves credit for that.

Diaz has been back in the UFC for 2 fights now, but we still haven’t seen what will happen when he fights a dominant, or solid wrestler (GSP, KOS, Fitch, Hendricks, Pierce, Ellenberger, MacDonald). If there’s a real reason to why he’s “retiring” from MMA, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was the real reason. I’d like to see if his skills have improved there, but it sounds like we may never find out.

I hope he stays

So he fights again and get’s beat again and so everyone can see he is overrated and is not a top tier fighter, he is an average fighter who can beat the likes of Matt Brown etc.

I don't buy the retirement thing either....

after watching the PrimeTime episodes leading up to the fight, it’s quite obvious that Nick has a major issue with communicating what he’s thinking and feeling.

Your opinion is too extreme

so I disregard from this point forward most of your statements. You are unnecessarily critical.

He dominated

Average fighters, congratulations, that is quite an achievement. When he manages to dominate top tier fighters like GSP has done, dominating fighters like Fitch, Alves, Shields, Koscheck, and Hughes, then get back to me.

He fought a top tier fighter yesterday in Condit, and did not dominate like he usually does, coincidence? I don’t think so, fact is is the tools he has are not good enough to cope with the top tier fighters, all he is is a brawler with some good submission skills, submission skills against average fighters I might add.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 1:01 PM EST up reply actions

he likes to fight. That's not going to change no matter what level of fighter he faces

he’s not a gameplanner

5-2, undefeated and undisputed, beat me ... if you can.

Diaz used to fight at LW, was he fighting a weight class and a half above his usual weight class?

so if "real fighters" dont quit then I guess GSP is a bitch, I remember him tapping to strikes, and openingly admitting he need couseling cause his mental capicity is weak. and I quote " throwing his brick in the river" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Dude you are a fucking retard if you truely believe Nick is not a top WW or even top fighter in general. No weak ass “gameplanning” not to fight and score points. Carlos done just as much talking as Nick, “this is gonna be a dog fight” then turned all Greg jackson weak sauce on everyone. When have you ever see Carlos fight like that before? I wont hold my breath for that one, secondly go look at Carlos last 10 -11 fights, he was gifted the Diaz, ellenberger, and a bs stoppage to Rory! so who had Carlos beat that is supposely “elite” Kim? Prater? Larson? Alessio? Your Post is fucking stupid and just shows your ignorrance, now go back to Jerking off to GSP dickrubbing and jabbing his opponents!

Neither Diaz nor Condit have the game to compete with GSP. He can take either down at will, or jab them at distance endlessly.

I had Diaz winning round 1, 2, and 5

Most of the pro fighters see it the same and i respect their opinion over mine and any non mma fighter.

by BJPennfan on Feb 5, 2012 1:01 PM EST reply actions

Really?

Care to show me the list of all these pro fighters saying Diaz won the fight, let’s see it.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 1:03 PM EST up reply actions

This fanpost was just one contradiction after another.
He is a very 1 dimensional fighter with good punches and good submission skills

So he’s good at JJ and boxing? I thought he was one dimensional?

Some Diaz fans are trying to make excuses saying there is no way Condit won that fight, which is just basic fan boy bias, Condit clearly won that fight, and secondly even if Diaz won the fight, if it wasn’t impressive enough or emphatic enough to convince the judges and many other fans, then what’s his chances against the best WW out there in GSP? Does anyone actually think Diaz’ sloppy fight last night would even be remotely good enough to beat GSP? We all know the answer, GSP VS Diaz was all based on HYPE, nothing more, nothing less, as Diaz himself admitted, he had to to talk trash because that’s what get’s him the title shot, and as he said, it worked.

But the good thing is we will actually get a legit WW championship fight now, as Condit VS GSP is not simply based on hype, but that Condit deserves to be in there with GSP and brings the skills to be able to give GSP a legitimate challenge.

All of this. Condit barely squeeked past Diaz. Why is he a legit contender to GSP but Diaz wouldn’t be? You said if they gave the decision to Diaz it wouldn’t have mattered because he barely beat Condit. Now Condit’s a challenge to GSP because he barely beat Diaz? None of this makes any sense. I’m gonna read the comments to see if sense was made today.

Overeem is sexy and he knows it.

by jay. on Feb 5, 2012 1:30 PM EST reply actions

Condit is legit

Because unlike Diaz he is not 1 dimensional, he has lot’s of good tools in his game, and has legit wins over other good WW’s, secondly, he didn’t barely beat Diaz, he was the clear winner, Diaz struggled, not Condit.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

It wasn't a clear cut 50-45 fight

And he didn’t hurt Diaz once. The only time that fight was close to being finished was when Nick had his back.

So, no, he didn’t “clearly” win anything. He’s a tiny bit better than Nick and neither of them are close to GSP. So don’t pretend Carlos is a contender and Nick isn’t/wasn’t.

You still haven’t answered how someone that is good standing and on the mat could possibly be considered one dimensional. Are you really bad at numbers or English?

Overeem is sexy and he knows it.

by jay. on Feb 5, 2012 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

haha

Did you say that Carlos has wins over good WW’s and Diaz doesn’t? Carlos got lucky against a young Rory McDonald. That’s also his best win to date. He did beat Ellenberger (again before he was experienced) and that’s fucking it. After those two it’s a list of nobodies. So the two guys he’s beaten, he beat them in their first fights.

You’re a losing cause. Should just delete your Mania account and save face. hahahahaha

According to you

Diaz is legit, and Condit beat him, haha so you just debunked yourself and by your own standards just acknowledged Condit beating a legit top WW since that’s what Diaz is in your book. Now go close your account Diaz fan boy, go console Diaz in these hard times, couldn’t even win an imaginary made up belt.

by sz87 on Feb 5, 2012 3:31 PM EST reply actions

I didn't say Condit wasn't legit, dumbass.

You’re the one saying Condit has an amazing record and Diaz hasn’t fought shit. Diaz is the only top 10 fighter Condit has ever beaten. EVER. Condit wouldn’t have been the only top 10 Diaz had beaten.

You really have no idea what you’re talking about.

Overeem is sexy and he knows it.

by jay. on Feb 6, 2012 11:19 AM EST up reply actions

Hey dumbass

Maybe you forgot Condit beat Ellenberger, who is top 10. Condit also beat Hardy when Hardy was in the top 10, Condit beat Hardy just after GSP’s decision victory over him, Condit knocked Hardy the F—k out in his own country sending him straight out the top 10. Condit beat Kim Dong, who was on a 6 fight unbeaten streak, and on a 3 fight win streak with wins over Sadollah, and coincidently, Nate Diaz, Nicks’ very own brother. So stick that in your ass, unlike Diaz, Condit beat well established fighters instead of bums like Daley, Smith, and other unknown average fighters.

Diaz sucks, and when he loses his next UFC fight, unless he quits like a little bitch, then everybody will finally realise it, but off course you Diaz nut huggers will come bitching and whining again that he got robbed by the judges, ha ha.

by sz87 on Feb 6, 2012 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

You really are fucking stupid

By not considering Ellenberger to be top 10, and you say I don’t know what I’m talking about? lol, here you go folks, this right here is your average stupid fucking Diaz fan where they have to talk complete shit to make sense of anything.

by sz87 on Feb 6, 2012 12:30 PM EST up reply actions

Ellenberger was not top 10 when Condit beat him

Hardy may have been at the time, but looking back his record now appears to have been inflated. Kim Dong is not top ten, he beat Amir who is not top 20 and Nate who has proven to be a 155 and awful against wrestlers.
