How did you score Nick Diaz vs Carlos Condit? Discuss Maniacs.

I have to say Maniacs, i thoroughly enjoyed today's main card.
143 was a great card all together with lots of finishes and enjoyable decisions.

Obviously the main card didn't come without controversy but let's see how you all scored it.

Right after the final buzzer I had it 3-2. Upon watching it again and scoring it objectively I am barely able to accept that Condit may have earned 48-47. Personally my final score was 48-47 Diaz. In my mind there is no way that Carlos took the first two and the 5th could very well be argued in Nick's favour. Running does not equal fighting and I don't care how many spinning back fists/elbows you land while Starnes-ing it. Carlos sure did pick up his game in the 3rd and 4th rounds though and that may have swayed the judges..

Props to the new Interim Champ and I hope that Nick doesn't retire. I would love a rematch.

So what say you Maniacs? Who won in your eyes.

Condit won, undoubtedly.

I literally just watched the fight because I missed it last night, and there was no question about it, as far as I seen.

Diaz moved forward more, yes, but Condit wasn’t exactly moving backwards, he was cutting angles and moving laterally. Condit was also much busier and constantly throwing, whereas at times Diaz was just waving his arms around or throwing half-heartedly.

Condit was always looking for more significant strikes, and he also landed more significant strikes, be it with elbows, kicks or punches. He shrugged off various takedown attempts, and though he was taken down in the 5th round he fought off all submission attempts, broke out of the back-mount and finished the round on top.

Condit won. No question. Anyone that disputes it clearly was not watching the same fight I was.

Dude.

There is a question.

How can you say “No Question” in such a close fight that is being disputed 50/50 by everybody on the net.

agreed

Nick outfronted Condit, but Condit outstruck Nick by a sizeable margin.

Too many fans were hypnotized by Nick’s taunting and walking forward even while getting hit. Thankfully, the judges were not so easily duped.

I watched it again, and to me it was a no brainer. I gave Condit rounds 1, 2, 3 & 4. I gave Diaz round 5……49-46 Condit.

If Diaz were the Champion going into the fight, i could see where Diaz was “walking Condit down” might come into play in the scoring, as they say, if you want to beat the champ, you have to take the belt from him…..but Diaz wasn’t the champ, and if you look at it that way, Condit easily outstruck him. A weak leg kick will outscore a no-punch or a no-kick every day of the week.

I thought it was a damn good fight. Just knowing either of those guys could have finished the other at any given moment (in a number of different ways) made the fight very suspenseful. And it certainly wasn’t short on action either.

I'm not so sure, and I'm a huge GSP fan.

GSP is my favorite fighter still fighting, but I’ve always thought Carlos presented a much bigger challenge to him than Diaz. It will be the first time since Penn that GSP has fought someone as well-rounded as himself. Plus Condit has more power and is a lot bigger than Penn (or GSP for that matter). Condit is like a hybrid of all of GSP’s former opponents rolled into one. Kos’ power, Hardy’s size, Fitch’s chin, more KO’s than Alves, more subs than Shields, Greg Jackson’s gameplanning, Carlos is the total package. And he’s already beaten GSP’s protege’ Rory MacDonald.

Condit lost the first and the last round.

rounds 2,3 and 4 were clearly Condits. this was very cut and dry for me. the only thing i’d say is that i now officially hate the term Octagon Control. to me Condit dictated where the fight took place and took advantage of Nick’s plodding inability to cut the cage off for any advantageous periods of time.

Is throwing your leg out to touch your opponent to then run away, showing zero intention of wanting the finish, enough to win a fight? IMO it isn’t, I thought the shots Nick landed, albeit landed few, were more effective than the leg touch Condit was throwing repeatedly. Add to that the octagon control and aggression and I think Nick is the clear winner.

How can you score a few leg kicks over a takedown and back mount? That’s the problem for me, grappling isn’t nearly rewarded as much as it should be. Taking the fight into consideration, who really won? I struggle to see how Condit, with that gameplan can win.

It’s not like he was pushing forward with Shogun Rua leg kicks. Those kicks finish fights and put your opponent on crutches.

even while "running away"...

he managed to strike more. land more. land harder shots by volume. land more combos. land more body and head kicks.

Octagon Control?

Diaz never had octagon control, stop deluding yourself, it’s actually called a TACTIC to often let another fighter just come after you while you frustrate him and move around throwing leg kicks and punches at him, not allowing him to utilise his game plan. So you need to learn what octagon control actually is, Diaz was in NO CONTROL which is why he could never take hold of Condit and keep him on the fence or just land strike after strike on him against the cage like he did Bj Penn.

Secondly, what aggression? There was no aggression by Diaz, when Condit through his combinations he was the more aggressive ones, all Diaz did was try to chase down Condit and couldn’t do so, that isn’t ‘aggression’ that’s called falling for your opponents tactic of chasing him down and getting no result hence simply frustrating yourself and your game plan.

I had it 4 - 1 Diaz

with Condit winning Rnd 4 only. Was disappointed in both fighters, Diaz for not adjusting his gameplan at all, and Condit for refusing to engage.

Overall I thought the judging and refereeing was horrible last night, not just in the Main Event either, it was bad to the point where at times I found myself questioning the legitimacy of the sport, and the UFC’s role in the outcome of fights lately.

the UFC wanted Diaz to win.

That fight would have made MUCH more money than Condit/GSP. Way way more! Dana says he doesn’t care, but they probably lost 250,000 PPV buys because of this result. They had nothing to gain by Carlos winning this fight, but he did anyway.

I missed the Riddle and LeeRoy fights, but what Rogan says has no effect on the outcome...

sure, he may be able to persuade the viewer at home, but judges cant hear him. He was hanging on Bisping’s nuts last fight saying Bisping is taking it to Sonnen…not really.

But with Condit, Rogan was complimenting Condits improvement in the 3rd round….which was true. Condit started moving better and getting some good shots off. Isn’t that what he’s supposed to do?

And as for Kos, I wanted a point taken away for the eyepoke…but maybe thats cuz I had money on Pierce lol. Fuck Koscheck and his takedowns with 30 seconds left.

Why

Should a fighter simply fight into Diaz’ game plan? Diaz has a game plan, it’s to get into a fist fight, a brawl, that’s where his strength lies, he wants you to stand right in front of him so that makes you an easy target. So why should someone just play into that, play into the strength of the opponent?

It was clear that Diaz was not himself last night

Condit could have used an Edgar or Cruz approach, in and out of the pocket, lead with a stiff jab, still use the kicks, and get out of the way of damage, problem is he doesn’t have the skillset to pull that off, so he had to run away instead.

Erm

Head and Body shots aren’t the only areas out there to strike at, there’s strikes against the legs, which you get points for! See! You guys literally have to create some alternate reality to make sense of your own beliefs, as if to say that only shots against the body and head seem to count now. Many fighters have broken down other fighters by targeting their legs, pat barry, forrest griffin, jose aldo, jon jones, etc etc.

Diaz wasn’t controlling fight neither, simply going after a fighter who wants you to go after him does not= control, it’s called playing into your opponent’s hands because he wants you after him so then he will throw kicks and punches.

After sobering up, and looking at the numbers and rethinking the fight. I’ve judged(amateur level) and I would have given it to Condit based on striker.

But on another note, aggression, controlling the pace, those matter to me and I would have given Diaz at least two rounds, so that’s why I don’t understand the 49-46 scores because the fight was closer than that. I can buy 3 rounds to 2 for either man, but not 4-1.

This is a fight people will never agree on, and so many people are getting overly emotional about this event, this fight.

I was entertained and I was on the edge of my seat. Good fight. By the way, people getting so pissed off about it, it’s kinda funny, quit feeding the trolls.

yeah, I don't get how some of these guys are calling that a boring fight.

I thought it was very action-packed and suspense-filled.

It was frustrating in one way

Everybody’s saying that Condit didn’t let Diaz fight his fight, but I disagree. The only thing Condit did that made this different from any other Diaz fight is that he didn’t let himself get cornered. But by backing up and counterstriking, he actually allowed Nick to do his “walking you down” thing, which made Condit look bad and made me nervous about the decision. It was obvious that Condit landed a lot more strikes, but I didn’t know if the judges would be fooled by Nick’s constant walking forward. I think Condit should have tried to back Nick up and keep him on his heels. The reason Condit didn’t KO him was that, just as Nick said pre-fight, you can’t put all that power into your strikes when you’re backing up (unless you’re Chuck Liddell). I think Diaz fought exactly the fight he wanted to fight and Carlos still outstruck him.

I'm glad for Condit cuz I wanted him to win.

but I could’ve seen a 4-1 score in favor of Diaz more than Condit.

Diaz outstruck Condit in round 2 and 2 out 3 judges scored it Condit

Diaz took Condits back in the 5th and tried to submit him and 2 out of 3 judges scored it Condit. The only definitive action in the fight apparently meant nothing to 2 out of 3 judges. So people need to stop pointing to how judges score the bout as end all be all in the discussion.

IMO

Diaz won the first two rounds and the 5th, can understand any reason why this was not witnessed by the judges, no one can take the sight from my eyes, no matter what way you look at that fight again and again and again, 1st and 2nd rounds to Diaz, 3rd and 4th to Condit but Diaz won the fifth, end of story. Diaz will smash Kos next anyway and get his rematch or else get GSP, thats just my opinion. Diaz won that fight fair and square.

I picked diaz to win, lost money on it, but I thought Condit won... let me ask you this tkkpal

Are you the type of guy to add up points for leg kicks to the thigh or chin and do you rate them below a jab or punch?

I think there’s a group that doesnt give leg kicks much credit. I have no idea why rogan said he changed his mind and thought Diaz won the fight… what does rogan have to say about fight metric results?

I saw the first and fifth rd's as the toss ups. It was a close fight.

I think Diaz won those rounds but. Officially it still stands as condit’s win so shiv, nice sig.

4-2,
Condit over Diaz - Shivan"Diesel"Tiger

by Cruz Jackson on Feb 5, 2012 6:51 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Even compustrike would agree Diaz won

Round 1: Condit landed three more strikes (weak leg kicks) while Diaz landed twice as many body and head shots. Diaz

Round 2: Diaz landed more strikes and his strikes were not leg kicks. Diaz

Round 3: Condit was afraid to engage so he outpointed Diaz. Condit

Round 4: Same as above. Condit

Round 5: Diaz showed octagon control, got in more significant strikes and a takedown. Since when do takedowns not win rounds? Not to mention the submission attempts and body triangle.

Diaz 48-47

Diaz for me took rounds 1 and 2 though very close
Condit took round 3 and 4
Diaz took round 5

48-47 diaz but i could easily understand how it could be scored 48-47 to condit
