New Blood Rising: UFC signs light heavyweight Glover Teixeira

Glover_texiera_medium

Now we up in the big leagues

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has signed top light heavyweight prospect Glover Teixeira (17-2). The Brazilian mauler is currently on a fifteen fight win streak that includes notable wins over former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez, Marvin Eastman and Sokoudjou.

The staggering part is that regardless of being a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, he has 11 knockouts.

Teixera is a member of 'The Pit' which is the former camp for former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and led by his famed trainer John Hackleman.

Does this excite you Maniac's?

Him and Bonnar would be a nice fight but he is such a high prospect he may get a higher push.

Vera yes

not Franklin, he has no business fighting prospects, he should fight Jason Miller, they won’t hurt each other, and neither are going a title run ever again

UFC 144 picks: Zhang 1st Rnd SUB, Mitsuoka 2nd Rnd SUB, Yamamoto UD, Bader UD, Cantwell UD, Mizugaki UD, Kongo UD, Hioki UD, Pettis 2nd Rnd SUB, Okami UD, Shields UD, Edgar UD(sig bet with Scottidog)

Jason Miller vs. C.B. Dollaway booked

Brandon Vera vs. Rich Franklin makes sense plus i hate Vera and i think it be a nice fight to starting going out on for Franklin. If Franklin never went to 185 pounds i bet he’d be a consensus top 8 still.

Franklin isn't going to be back until the summer

so he can wait, and probably pick his bout. How about Stann at Franklinweight, Stann is cock blocked at 185 for now, it might make sense as a co-main for a Fox show

UFC 144 picks: Zhang 1st Rnd SUB, Mitsuoka 2nd Rnd SUB, Yamamoto UD, Bader UD, Cantwell UD, Mizugaki UD, Kongo UD, Hioki UD, Pettis 2nd Rnd SUB, Okami UD, Shields UD, Edgar UD(sig bet with Scottidog)

I don’t see Franklin wanting to fight Stann. Simply not wanting to fight an american hero as his brand is ‘american fighter’. I wish he’d move down to MW again and fight Bisping.

why would bisping take that fight?

he was just one win away from a title shot, which if Chael loses while waiting for Silva to get healthy he may get anyway.

It may be an easy win with a big name. I think his cardio with a returning Franklin may help him.

but it doesn't help him move forward

and there is always that chance that he gets caught and loses

He hasn’t beaten a top tier fighter really other than Matt Hamill. He could get caught fighting anyone but why not build b.s. rep upon an aging legend who hates the cut plus coming off injury.

It be a smart business move. Boxing uses and MMA uses as we saw Ortiz become a draw after smashing Shamrock and Franklin got notoriety after smashing Shamrock as well.

but Bisping is already made

he doesn’t need to make his name, at this point he might be more of a name than Franklin is. If I’m Bisping, I’m waiting to see what happens with Silva vs Sonnen, if they fight, then I want Munoz, if they don’t, then I want a main event rematch with Chael, because in a 5 round fight, I think I can beat him

UFC 144 picks: Zhang 1st Rnd SUB, Mitsuoka 2nd Rnd SUB, Yamamoto UD, Bader UD, Cantwell UD, Mizugaki UD, Kongo UD, Hioki UD, Pettis 2nd Rnd SUB, Okami UD, Shields UD, Edgar UD(sig bet with Scottidog)

Valid and very understandable. I was just hoping you saw my reasoning.

If you ask me i’d rather fight Weidman or the winner of Palhares/Belcher

i see your reasoning

I just think that reasoning would make more sense if you were talking about Weidman,or another younger fighter who still has a name to make, but again, there is no reason for Franklin to fight a young lion like that, unless he wants to “take one for the UFC”

He's a bad motherfucker, no doubt

Still got a few prospects I want Zuffa to pick up (Sarnavskiy, Horiguchi, Massaranduba, etc.) but he’s way up there. Good signing.

Herman ain't going back to 205 for Glover

Also, I’m still trying to come up with a great sig for you when Edgar retains again.

Finally! Dude is tearing foos up.

I think his last couple fights were at HW though… at least the Ricco one, which I watch. Rodriguez was obliterated.

It will be nice to see Glover against an upper-level competition.

I'm 20 years in and I still win.

Ricco Rodriguez, Marvin Eastman and Sokoudjou.

I don’t think victories over these three would warrant a high level fighter. I heard he got Kingsbury.

Professional sig bet record: 7-8-1

Sig Bet with KO's and Knees: Frankie/Bendo: 2 weeks (Frankie)
Sig Bet with KO's and Knees: Shields/Akiyama: 2 weeks (Shields)
Sig Bet with Patrick L. Sturmberg on Hioki/Bartimus: 2 weeks (Bartimus)

I'll believe it when he's inside the cage.

Until then i’ll assume Visa issues are delaying his UFC debut.
