Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva.
This is the rematch!
It's been a while but if you will, remember back to Jan. 1, 2011, when Thiago Silva rang in the New Year by playing bongos on Brandon Vera's back at the UFC 125: "Resolution" event in Las Vegas.
Silva laid a Donkey Kong style beating on Vera that resulted in a gnarly broken nose for "The Truth" and a pink slip from the powers that be.
Unfortunately, we later learned that Silva had tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and the result of the bout was overturned to a no contest while he was suspended for an entire year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Oh, and Vera got his job back.
And now he can (try to) get his revenge at UFC on FX 3 on May 15 in Fairfax, Virginia, as announced by the promotion.
Vera has only fought once since getting his face rearranged by Silva's fists, a unanimous decision victory over Eliot Marshall back at UFC 137 in Oct. 2011. It certainly wasn't an inspiring performance but it gives him his shot at redemption.
Silva, meanwhile, has been remorseful, apologizing for his actions and quietly serving his suspension. But he's back now and the UFC has been so gracious as to give him the chance to defeat Vera without chemical aid.
How's this one going to play out, Maniacs?
UFC on FX 3 takes place on May 15 in Fairfax, Virginia. Silva vs. Vera is the only bout booked for the card at this time but stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates.
