UFC Quick Quote: Johny Hendricks can't wait to hit Josh Koscheck on FOX

Photo of Johny Hendricks by Eshter Lin via MMAFighting.com.

"I'm so excited. Like, as soon as they told me, I was coyote hunting, I couldn't even coyote hunt and I love hunting. I was so excited I was like, 'Hey guys, I gotta go home.' I started watching film, doing stuff for that. Man, I just can't wait. I thought I was excited for Jon Fitch but actually it's this fight that I'm really excited for. ... I believe I'm better than him everywhere the fight goes. Actually I just can't wait to hit him, put this left hand on him and see what happens."

-- UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks has slowly risen up the ranks in a fairly stacked division, having seven of his eight fights since coming over from the WEC back in 2009. That's an impressive resume, of course, but his crowning moment came this past Dec. 30, 2011, in Las Vegas at UFC 141 when he knocked out Jon Fitch in just 12 seconds. A brief campaign for a title shot ended when Carlos Condit announced his intentions to wait for Georges St. Pierre and that opened the way for Hendricks to accept a bout against Fitch's teammate, Josh Koscheck, at UFC on Fox 3 on May 5, 2012, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Assuming he's able to unleash that monster left hand like he's so looking forward to doing, and it lands and does the same damage it did on Fitch, we could be seeing the next 170-pound title challenger. Anyone look at Hendricks and see a champion in waiting?

sorry Johnny

i luvd the knockout, hopefully it means i never have to see Fitch on a main card again but quick knockouts do happen and ive still got the Story fight etched in my memory. As much as it pains me to say it if Kos fights safe he wins.

I agree that Kos can win if he fights safely.

But as overrated as his stand up is and with his wrestling looking ok lately I see him getting beat.

Now, count up your crimes!

by Cyclonejoker on Feb 18, 2012 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

His wrestling looks amazing lately dude.

Stops GSP’s take downs. takes GSP down himself, controls the wrestling against Hughes, stops most of Pierce’s take downs and handles him with his own offensive wrestling….yea he may have the best wrestling in the UFC

Don't make me swing on you bro

Coyote hunting??

My grandpa used to kill coyotes and put their heads on a stake and set them around the perimeter of his pasture to prevent other coyotes from entering and killing his cattle.. Old schoolers were some tough bastards…not another coyote killed anymore of his cattle either, that shit worked man, shit worked…

That's because there were none left, LOL.

Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses off my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

I disagree.

How is Kos going to fight a safe fight here? He has no takedowns against Johnny. In a standup fight it is just a matter of time before Hendricks takes Kos out.

Honestly hope

Johnny wins, Koscheck has nothing to offer if he gets through Hendricks. Not like Josh is going to catch GSP with an overhand right if he were to get that far.

Oh and Koscheck almost

Lost a decision to Pierce, in which Hendricks already beat. I’d say they’re equally good, should be a good scrap regardless

Kos beat Pierce in a close SD

Hendricks also beat Pierce in a close SD.

At some point when it is possible, a fight between Jake E. and Nick Diaz? Someone is definetly gonna get knocked the hell out.

If Jake E. outwrestled Nick for 5 rounds I don't think Nick would complain...

1. Because that would be very hard, and taxing on Jake E’s gas tank

2. Because Nick has said 5 rounds gives him a lot of time to work…which it would…

Get that outwrestle bullshit outta here…it would be a scrap for sure

Johnny should win on paper

but he gets out wrestled by ppl who dont have nearly the wrestling accomplishments he does, it will be interesting to see him facing someone with as good credentials in Koscheck.

Credentials don’t mean much in MMA. MMA wrestling is what it’s all about. Koscheck is one of the best, one of the few guys who can think about being competitive with GSP. Hendricks is definitely not going to be outwrestling Kos here, but he’s not going to get rolled over. Plus Kos is a dummy, he should be wrestling everyone aggressively, and he barely uses his best skill. He’s a fucking retard gameplanning wise.

by p123 on Feb 18, 2012 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

Hendricks boxing is superior to Kos...

the only way Kos will stand a chance is if the fight stays on the ground…Big Rigg has a MEAN left hand as we saw in his last fight against Fitch. Kos is a great guy, has always been one of my fav fighters but Johnny has his number

by AJthrowinjabs on Feb 18, 2012 5:13 PM EST reply actions

I don’t think either of these guys have what it takes to win the title. Hendricks is riding high after his fluke KO, but Fitch beats him in 8/10 fights minimum. I like Hendricks but he is not as good as everyone is making him out to be. Koscheck has already gotten smoked in the title fight twice.

kos barely got by pierce. bad camp or not, he took that fight lightly and beat a guy by his own admission he claimed had no business being in the cage with him based on 2 end of round takedowns. Kos looked uncomfortable, he looked worried, and he fought exactly enough to win that fight. and likely only got the nod b/c of his name value and maybe a last 30 seconds takedown/hug-a-thon.

hendricks is a good bit more dangeorus than pierce and has a bit better reach than pierce with his t-rex arms.

Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei. Basillio. Harry Greb.

by theworldsoldestsport on Feb 19, 2012 1:53 PM EST reply actions

To think Hendricks is going to handle Kos is crazyness.

Kos is a far better fighter and MMA wrestler. There isn’t a wrestler that Kos can’t manhandle.

Johny also isn’t some striking machine. He is wrestler with decent boxing but has heavy power that makes his striking really dangerous, just like Kos.

This is Kos’s fight to win. I would say Kos will be a -200 to -250 favorite. Anything less than that Im all over it.

Don't make me swing on you bro
