Alessio Sakara: The Forgotten man
So I'm bored on a Saturday morning and I thought I'd share with you this great documentary about one of my favourite fighters, Alessio Sakara.
Now I know Sakara isn't a world beater and won't be challenging for a title anytime soon but what I love about him is that he always brings it every fight, win or lose he brings it.
One of the major issues with Sakara is this, fitness. Only having fought three times in the past 3 years just isn't good enough or consistent enough to develop as a mixed martial artist and gain enough momentum and confidence to push forward and get on a good win streak.
But now he's seemingly back to full health after his knee surgery and is set to face top 10 Middleweight in Brian Stann at UFC: Sweden in April. As a fan this fight worries me as Stann has been far more active and has more cage time BUT, this is the big but, not many of you will know that Mr Alessio 'Legionarius' Sakara is a BJJ BLACK BELT!! WTF I hear you scream to the heavens?! At the age of 19 he moved to Brazil and trained under Roberto Almedia in Rio de Janerio. I think this, along with his superb boxing can set up the takedown and use this hidden talent and submit Brian Stann in Sweden.
Thats's what's gonna happen folks like it or lump it!
Oh and watch this for some comedy gold if you missed my post last year with this in :)
Peace out Maniacs

"Hidden talent" seems to be an apt description
I too like the fact that he comes to fight, but he’s appeared really one dimensional. I would not have guessed he was a black belt in bjj.
I think one of his issues is the weight cut. Maybe he doesn’t have enough in the tank come fight night to be able to grapple, and therefore has to keep it standing. I don’t know if that’s it or not, but he’s always looked like a fighter that’s right on the cusp of being really dangerous, but just can’t put it all together.
Yeah you could be right there
he was a pretty big LHW, bit chubby though. I mean his grappling isn’t awful he did well against Leites who has a legit ground game a few years back, but yeah I agree with you on this

I don’t know if American Top Team is doing anything for him to develop further, Id like to see him at Kings MMA or somewhere like Jacksons and see how it goes

Jackson's would help him a lot
That gym refines fighters.
On the downside though, that refining seems to take the raw edge off the fighters too, and it’s that raw quality that makes them exciting to watch.

take the raw edge off of fighters?
Carlos Condit, Melvin Guillard, Diago Sanchez, Jon Jones, Shane Carwin, Brian Stann, Donald Cerrone, Leonard Garcia ALL SAY HI.
sakaras great technically
people go on about BJ etc but alessios got the best boxing in mma, hands down! trouble is he hasnt got the minerals, whenever the going gets tough he collapses and you cant teach this no matter what gym ur at.Shame really coz i really like him.Hes technically way better than Stann but as soon as they start trading sakaras gonna get caught and give up.Stann late 1st or early 2nd tko

"i dont get it"
"you gnaw on her face in public like that again and you'll be one tee hee hee hee"
You take that back! haha
Yeah I think his boxing is superb, the angles and shots he landed on James Irvin were so good.
I kinda agree, maybe he should get a sports therapist like GSP and Bisping? that could help with the mental side of things

My main concern is that gay ass dance he's doing in the second gif
Sakuraba would get jabbed to death by GSP if they were to fight in a prime vs. prime fantasy match. Beating one dimensional Gracie's is cool and all, but without wrestling you ain't shit.
I love this lead hook

He beat James Lee in James's UFC debut
James lives and trains about an hour south of me. He’s reffed my fights, he’s a good guy.
So… regardless I always root against Sakara on principle.
Kazushi Sakuraba would submit GSP in his prime.
Exciting fighter going nowhere like you said
But I’d keep him over Leben or Akiyama the greasy cheater

dr. sexy has fucking great takedown d and i feel like at 170 his gas tank wont be an issue. he's already done a test cut and from what i've heard it went off without a hitch
dr. sexee has better striking too and i see him either tagging shields with an overhand and tkoing him or getting a uD

Thanks for sharing this vid
I like Sakara allot, and this interview was good. I hope he beats Stann, which isn’t impossible, but submission would be great.
