Matt Brown on Wonderboy: 'I can go 100-0 beating a bunch of idiots'

Photo

UFC welterweight wunderkind Stephen Thompson has 63 straight victories.

He's 37-0 as an amateur kickboxer, 20-0 as a pro kickboxer and 6-0 in mixed martial arts (MMA), including a successful Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut at UFC 143: "Diaz vs. Condit" back on Feb. 4 in Las Vegas.

The "Immortal" (and slightly outspoken) Matt Brown, who fights "Wonderboy" at the upcoming UFC 145 pay-per-view (PPV) event on April 21 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, is not impressed.

From his interview with MMA Weekly:

"I don’t know what he’s about in MMA. It looked to me he was doing the same old karate, and the karate’s the same thing, like who did he fight in karate? I don’t know. Name me one guy, name me one guy he fought. I’m not too concerned with this guy’s kickboxing. I can go 100-0 beating a bunch of idiots, but that’s not my style."

Hear more from Brown on their recently announced match-up, after the jump.

Coz Brown’s such an amazing wrestler?

"Anyone who enjoys watching sport on television is an imbecile; a dangle-mouthed, cud-chewing, salivating ding-dong with a brain full of dim piss, blobbing out in front of a box watching a grunting thicko knock a ball round a field while their own sad carcass gently coagulates into a wobbling mass of beer and fat and thick white heart-attack gravy" - Charlie Brooker

Usually with Brown on his back

His wrestling is terrible

You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

The wonderboy had a nice KO but he probly had the most pitiful opponent 2 ever step in the cage. The dude was just standing there & felt like it took him forever 2 land anything.

I agree, completely understating a guy’s 100-0 record is pretty insane. Although Matt will be his first real test in MMA, it’s insane not to notice the serious accomplishment. He could be right, but why play that card?

When guys say things like this...

let me just say I expect Brown to be looking up at the lights.

I was too busy eating a cheese burger out of Roy’s beard to pick fights correctly. Next time, ill listen to The Pride
I will stand as Starr788’s personal bodyguard for the next two weeks. If anyone has a problem with him, they have a problem with me. Expect me to fully uphold my end of this agreement

Brown has never been knocked out

and i dont think has ever been outstruck. his weakness is BJJ, and Wonderboy isnt one to exploit that

John Howard is the ony guy Brown has fought that was known for his power.

This is a good test for Wonderboy, but I expect him to win. And I expect him to outstrike Brown. Not sure how that stanec will hold up against someone with decent wrestling, but that is my only question mark right now.

I hear good things about his grappling

and while Brown has good Muay Thai, I don’t think it trumps Thompsons kickboxing/karate abilities. This should be a good fight.

What I meant by that statement by the way, was if people are cocky and lack respect for their opponents agility like Brown seems to be doing, he will underestimate him and it will result in a less than pleasant end for him.

Yea Brown is a true gamer. He is scrappy as fuck. It’s too bad he hasn’t been winning, but he has been competitive, and he is a gamer, which is why he’s still with the UFC. Hopefully Brown can rattle off a couple of wins, after this fight of course, I want to see this Karate guy do it up!

He was either mesmerized by the Wonderboy’s moves, or was hand picked for Wonderboy to show off his skills and get some hype. Pathetic

by PotOfGold on Feb 13, 2012 12:10 PM EST up reply actions

Brown’s got some good submission awareness, it’s like he just finds a way to keep getting caught. I don’t get it. He’s no Melvin Guillard that’s for sure, but Melvin can only keep up with like one or two moves. Matt is keeping up into the 7 or 8 moves, but still gets caught.

BJJ is a motherfucker for some guys.

the UFC is very careful in picking thompson's next opponent...

thompson doesn’t stand a chance against a legit fighter with a great wrestling base (basically 80+% of the UFC welterweights).

that said, i have no problem with brown saying what he’s saying.
he’s good enough to beat thompson.
and crazy enough to “stand and bang” with him, too.
it’ll be interesting to see what he does once the cage door closes.

by fretworkmn on Feb 13, 2012 11:35 AM EST reply actions

It’s quite possible with a striking acumen like he has, he may get the express lane to a title shot. UFC likes entertaining strikers, and does not enjoy seeing them get wrestlefucked.

by p123 on Feb 13, 2012 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

I agree..

Watching his performance in the UFC, there was nothing spectacular about Thompson’s performance besides the knockout kick. If he ever fights a wrestler, Kos, Fitch, even Diego he would get put on his back and it would be over.

I’m cool with that. Thompson looked good. Know we really test him. How he looks against Brown will be a huge determinant of how good he really is.

Matt Brown is legit, and if Wonderboy rolls through him, he is a serious threat. No one rolls through Matt Brown.

Shut up already,

you’ve been making the same pointless argument several times already. It doesn’t matter that he didn’t get hit, he looked mediocre against an opponent who is FAR below mediocre. If it was anyone with a shred of offense, Thompson could have lost.
