Some good potential fights for GSP when he returns, Condit, Hendricks, Sanchez or Ellenberger. New challenges for GSP, he hasn't cleaned the division out yet with the emergence of these fighters. If he's out injured till November I say let Condit defend his interim belt against either Hendricks, or the winner of Ellenberger VS Sanchez.

Yea, not including Diaz is pretty lol worthy. But honestly, the fighters the author has in there, could possibly be rated above Diaz.
Although Diaz would probably kill Kampmann, Kampmann is probably going to be able to beat some of those wrestlers, and we haven’t seen anything suggest Diaz could beat a wrestler who comes to wrestle yet.

And why do you think that? If you are on bottom majority of the time, you are probably going to lose in even BJJ though.
Generally a wrestler is going to be in top control and Nick on bottom.
If Nick can’t sub the wrestler over 3 rounds, in general he’s going to lose.
It’s just one of those things.
Did you watch the fights?
Sherk had a very hard time taking him down and when he finally did Diaz was able to scramble to his feet. That fight was mostly a striking match. You can’t just look at the stlyes of the fighters and conlcude a fighter won a certain way, you have to watch the fight. Ive seen this so many times on here, most people don’t remember: Diaz vs Sherk, Diaz vs Maynard, and Sonnen vs Okami

When I get a chance I guess I’ll have to watch them.
Finally was able to watch Penn / Edgar 2, and after all the talk from posters, I don’t think it was nearly as bad as some claimed. Obviously Penn lost, and lost every round I believe, but it wasn’t necessarily a really crazy beat down. It was just embarassing.
And I don’t think Frankie looked much better , Frankie seemed a lot more crisp in the two Maynard fights opposed to the two Penn fights IMO…

I agree, Penn definitely looked regressed more so than anything. Penn probably knowing he was in for a tough fight, just blew it in training. Penn and competition don’t go together.

Okami vs Sonnen is on that list because most people misremember it.
They know Sonnen won and they know Sonnen is a wrestler so they conclude he won by outwrestling Okami. And he did for the first couple minutes of the 1st round, but the rest of the fight was a striking match. I remember thinking the Diaz-Sherk fight could go either way. But quite a few people think Diaz should’ve got the nod

But his defensive wrestling hasn't really improved, Hell Cyborg got him down(which was a bad idea admittedly)
To me his attitude of “wrasslin is pussy fighting!” is what truly holds him back from being great, Well that and his mental problems.
He needs to embrace all forms of fighting and implement whatever game plan necessary to win the fight, Whether its counter striking, wrestling, BJJ or a mixture of everything. Not just bad boy boxing, moving forward flat footed because i dont care if u punch me as long as i get one bitch slap in.

If Hendricks vs Diaz was ever made
His coaches would have to be semi retarded to not center their gameplan around Hendricks taking down a fighter well known for having weak defensively wrestling, Hendrick’s biggest strength is Diaz’s biggest weakness. Its not rocket science.
As for Ellenberger, I think he has fallen in love with his hands a bit too but after getting popped a few times his wrestling instincts should kick back in or his corner men better wise him up quick because i dont see him winning a stand up war with Diaz.

Hey did anyone notice that they actually did a Light Heavyweight Ranking on the UFC on Fox for Evans vs Davis? That was pretty damn interesting huh? That’s Fox forcing their hand.
Now I don’t remember who was where, but I think I got this rankings thing down…
1) GSP ( Champion, obviously )
2) Condit ( Interim )
3 Diaz ( Close fight for Interim )
4 ) Hendricks ( Just beat long stay #2 Fitch )
5) Jake Ellenberger ( Been on quite a roll with KO over Shields )
6 ) Josh Koscheck ( Still highly ranked, but far away from title )
7) Jon Fitch ( highly ranked, but loss dropped him a ton )
8 ) Jake Shields ( eh, why not )
9 )Diego Sanchez ( Gifted a couple of wins, but still got em )
10) Martin Kampmann ( Lost a robber win over Story )

But the UFC can’t officially view Diego losing to Kampmann, that could be a back door special, but it can’t be an up and out there kind of issue. You know?
IE, Fox is not going to have Kampmann ranked higher than Diego because of that fight.

but that’s probably getting into fan ranking territory. He did beat Fitch but it depends how you look at things. If these rankings existed when Shields fought GSP wouldn’t he have been the no2 WW like anybody with a title shot is built up to be? Guess we don’t know yet but if that was the case then Ellenburger beat Shields (a more recent "no 2).

I agree, I feel Ellenberger’s complete body of work warrants him ahead of Hendricks in what would be any logical rankings system based on talent alone.
Problem is, the way rankings are done is generally not logical, and has varying logic all over.
It’s a funny thing, do rankings work based on a full body of work, or does it work like a championship? It’s a bit in between.
Essentially I mean, does beating a number 2 mean you take his spot? What about a long standing number 2 like Jon Fitch? He’s essentially the number 2 contender champion if that makes sense.
And also, Shields was never a legit number 2 contender, no matter how hard the UFC tries to sell it.
Jon Fitch has pretty much been the number 2 for years now, Shields has been top 5 for about the same time though.
Rankings are really silly, and I don’t think anyone has come up with a legit system yet to make sense of it all.

Considering that Diaz just fought for an interim belt, a large portion of people felt he won, and is one of the most popular fighters right now, I think the UFC looks at Diaz as their number 3 guy.
That list had nothing to do with how I would place them talent wise , it has all to do with how the UFC would view them.
As in the Fox rankings, how I think they would look for WW.

In fact it was supposed to be Swick/Kampmann for the shot. Hardy got the shot after decisioning Swick but Daley didn’t after stopping Kampmann in the first round.

Daley could have been another ushered in through the fast lane like Condit. Condit has beaten some serious up and coming talent in Jake and Rory, but he beat them at a time when they weren’t viewed as contenders.
Beating Kim and Diaz, is really not the proper way to get a title shot. Everyone knows the title runs through the Kos / Fitch combo, but we just have to protect contenders due to their dominance.
Any who, Daley is definitely a threat to anyone primarily stand up striker, and has the ability to seem elite one day, and mid tier the next due to his issue with dealing with LNP grapplers.

I prefer a tiered list.
Contender / Mid Tier / Low Level
And that’s on overall talent. Depending on a rock, paper’s scissors situation, you might have a mid tier guy beat some contenders ( IE Daley vs Kampmann , Condit ) due to stylistic match ups, also similar to the Sonnen > All except for BJJ guys scenario.
Those are harder to predicate.
Like if Sonnen fought damn near anyone from Brazil, he is going to lose, yet he will beat damn near everyone else. Trying to show that in a numerical system is impossible.
