UFC on FUEL TV 3: Dustin Poirier vs Chan Sung Jung set to headline on May 15 in Virginia

Photo of Dustin Poirier by Esther Lin via MMAFighting.com.

If you call them out, they will come.

After impressively submitting Max Holloway at UFC 143 this past Sat., Feb. 4, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dustin Poirier told members of the media that he wasn't quite ready for a featherweight title shot.

Instead, he had his eyes locked firmly on those of another 145-pound contender with a solid track record who has also been tearing through the division as of late -- Chan Sung Jung.

Shortly after they engaged in a brief Twitter feud and it wasn't long before the powers that be took notice and sent out the necessary paperwork to make this a reality.

And so it comes to pass that Poirier vs. Sung Jung will headline the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event scheduled for May 15, 2012, in Fairfax, Virginia, as announced by the promotion a short time ago.

Star-divide

As stated previously, Poirier most recently ran through Max Holloway this past weekend with a wicked triangle/armbar submission inside the first round. The win gave him his fifth in a row, including a now perfect (4-0) record since moving over to the UFC.

Sung Jung, meanwhile, is also flawless inside the Octagon, in more ways than one. After an 0-2 stint in WEC, he's put together consecutive award-winning performances against Leonard Garcia and Mark Hominick, respectively.

In Garcia's case, "The Korean Zombie" twisted him up like a pretzel and earned "Submission of the Night" (and even the year) in the process, while he stoned Hominick in just seven seconds for "Knockout of the Night" back on Dec. 10 of last year.

"Fight of the Night" forthcoming? Let's hope so.

UFC on FUEL TV 3 is scheduled to go down on May 15, 2012, at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. Poirier vs. Sung Jung will serve as the night's main event while other bouts booked for the card include Donald Cerrone vs. Yves Edwards, Thiago Silva vs. Igor Pokrajac and Tom Lawlor vs. Jason MacDonald.

As always, stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates to this still developing fight card.

Zombie's stand up isn;t that great.

I think pasting Mark Hominick is the worst thing to ever happen to the Zombie

Possibly. Possibly not tho. Fuck it, Jung by brutal ko

by hexbreaker on Feb 10, 2012 4:01 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Dooner

I kinda agree on that, but only if he gets destroyed by Poirier. Seems as though he just jumped into the top 5 category of featherweights all of a sudden from that Hominick KO. We’ll see though, I’m sure It is going to be action packed regardless.

by MauiWaves on Feb 10, 2012 4:35 PM EST up reply actions

advantage on his hands?

serioulsy? c’mon son! poirer is one bad motherfucker. He’s gonna tool the zombie into a coma

pride never die.

The only reason i say that is because I've seen more from Jung.

Awesome! I'm so glad I switched to directv, comcast fucking sucks!

Anyone that has comcast needs to switch to directv, it’s so.much better and cheaper. It’s beyond comparison. I just switched 3 days ago and I couldn’t be happier. They also have a bundle with verizon for phone and internet so you save even more dough! Way more channels, better on-demand and ppv, plus app’s like facebook, twitter, games,.weather, etc…

This is a Fight for the fans for sure

Obviously a number 1 contender bout. Which makes me think that they r setting aldo up with with winner of edgar bendo

by JonBon Joey on Feb 10, 2012 4:45 PM EST reply actions

The winner of Edgar-Bendo has a lot of work to do still. LW is the most stacked division.

There is absolutely no way Aldo will go to LW anytime this year.

zombie via 6 second KO

I’m almost complete with my transformation…once they attach that donkey schlong on me, I will be able to satisfy myself like danago does all day long and change my name to Buck Angel II

I lost to Cruz Jackson. He’s the best. I padded his record and just a can. I talk shit to try and get replies when In reality I still play the original Halo on original XBOX like a religiously. I’m so totally awesome and straight and I act gay on a blog only because I’m the second loneliest mother fucker on Mania. First goes to Stallion. I want Shivan to lose to Cruz and Diaz to show how overrated he is. My favorite fighter is Josh Burkman. Thank You.

"i oilcheck need to take a reality check. What an imbecile i am to even think of going up against Scott1 with his perfect 1 and 0 sig record.I am already known as Manias biggest scumbag now i’ve got the moniker of a loser as well!TUT TUT SMH!!!"

I played 8=Danago in words with friends and he quit just like shogun.

Amaizing fight

But I’d guess this will be the poorest rated free card to date. As good as this fight is the casual fan doesnt know either of these guys so it’s not a great choice for main event IMO. Kinda bold considering poirier has never fought on a UFC main card…

Nick Diaz sucks balls , he can’t hang with the elite WW’s he only looks good against 2nd rate guys in SF

Its UFC on Fuel…few people get Fuel anyway. This is basically for hardcores.

That said…this fight and Cerrone!? Yes
