USA TODAY Sports

MMAmania.com takes a look back at last night's UFC on Fox 5 main card opening bout between welterweight veterans Mike Swick and Matt Brown. What gave Brown the edge and helped him finish the fight emphatically? Find out below.

Two long-time UFC welterweight veterans battled it out last night (Dec. 8, 2012) as The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season one alumni Mike Swick took on TUF 7 fighter Matt Brown in the opening bout of the UFC on Fox 5 main card in Seattle, Washington.

Swick had returned from 30 months away from the Octagon to get a knockout victory in the last Fox show, but Brown was a much stiffer test than his prior opponent, entering the fight having won three straight.

Early on, Swick tried to stay on the outside and pump his jab, but Brown was able to close the distance and work his Muay Thai. With Brown finding success in the clinch, he Swick lost his balance and dropped to his back and "The Immortal" pounced with a surprising grappling attack.

Brown attacked with a few submission attempts, both from top position and then with a triangle choke from bottom, but Swick persevered with his veteran experience as both men got wrapped up like a pretzel on the canvas.

In the second round, Brown was the aggressor, forcing Swick to move backwards. Brown found a home for his right hand, leading with it often. In the clinch, both men got their licks in, but Brown got the better of it with his solid short range game.

After separating, Swick threw a huge looping right hand that came up short and Brown made him pay, stepping forward with a perfect right hand that drilled "Quick" in the jaw and knocked him out cold at the midway point of the second round.
