Jim Miller battered and bloodied Joe Lauzon in the co-main event of UFC 155: "Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2," earning a unanimous decision win on scores of 29-28 across the board.
The co-main event of the UFC 155: "Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2" fight card tonight (Sat., Dec. 29, 2012) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, featured a battle of perennial contenders who seem to slip when it's time to take the next step, as Joe Lauzon took on Jim Miller.
As expected, the pace was fast and furious to start, as Miller opened up with hard punches and kicks that had "J-Lau" backing up, covering up, and looking flustered.
And while the Bostonian tried his best to come back and answer the New Jersey native's blistering offense, Miller kept up the heat and bloodied Lauzon. Amazingly enough, Joe made it to the second round, wearing a crimson mask and sporting a gash above his right eye.
Miller wasted no time snatching a takedown, painting the canvas with Lauzon's leaky forehead. He quickly passed to full mount, now dominating on the floor just as much as he was on the feet. This time, though, Lauzon was able to reverse and end up on top himself, landing elbows and doing some damage of his own.
He even attempted a few submissions before the round was out.
The third and final frame was a battle to see who could gut it out the rest of the way. Miller seemed to have it in the bag with one minute to go but Lauzon came from nowhere to threaten with another few submission attempts just as the horn sounded.
"What a fight," exclaimed color commentator Joe Rogan.
When the scorecards were read, they revealed a unanimous decision win for Miller by scores of 29-28 across the board.
