We all know the Ultimate Fighter has gotten stale. I still watch every episode, but it seems like the same thing every season. The talent pool is thin, one fighter gets drunk and challenges everyone to a fight, and the decisions...oh the decisions. We don't see too many finishes anymore.
So how can Dana and company try to salvage this show? Many people say it isn't worth saving. I think it is. The biggest problem is what I mentioned before, the thin talent pool. So outside of having their very first female TUF, with each contestant being incredibly hot, what can the UFC do?
First, I think they need to add commentary to the fights. Its not a huge difference, but I would rather there be commentary. It would be nice to get Rogan and Goldie on board, but it doesn't even have to be them.
We need another season with heavyweights or Llght heavyweights. It seems like we always get Lightweights or Welterweights lately. TUF 17 features middleweights and light heavyweights, which is a decent change of pace. Which brings me to my next point...
Always feature two weight classes. I don't care if its heavyweights and flyweights or welterweights and featherweights...I like the seasons that feature multiple weight classes. When a season consists of 16 fighters of the same weight class, it gets stale. Especially when only a handful have a decent chance of winning the show.
Be pickier on who you let on the show. We have had some very weak talent pools as of late. I watched every episode of TUF 16, and it was a train wreck. There has to be ways of getting better talent on the show.
Take the alcohol out of the house. I don't care to see another Junie Browning. And I don't care to see a poor imitation, (Julian Lane)...Its to the point where it is making the UFC look bad. Is it too much to ask to get 16 fighters on the show that realize the opportunity they are getting? Every season we get a drunken idiot and a few minor exchanges.
I'm sure most of what I have said has probably been said on here 100 times. Or maybe its coming off as idiotic. But I think the show is worth saving.
