The UFC 157 fight card continues to fill up as the promotion yesterday announced a pending lightweight scrap between TUF 15 champ Mike Chiesa and Finnish fighter Anton Kuivanen.
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 champion Michael Chiesa, who called in sick for the UFC on FOX 5 event earlier this month, is apparently feeling well enough to commit to a new bout opposite Anton Kuivanen at the UFC 157 pay-per-view (PPV), scheduled for Feb. 23, 2013 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
UFC officials announced the bout late last night.
Chiesa (8-0) will enter the Octagon for the first time since defeating Al Iaquinta via technical knockout to win TUF 15 lightweight season back in June 2012. "Maverick" defied the odds, as well as the tragic loss of his father, to win the coveted "six-figure" contract.
Finland is not impressed.
Kuivanen (17-5) stumbled in his Octagon debut, falling to Justin Salas by way of unanimous decision; however, the Helsinki hurter was able to right the ship with a hard-fought split decision win over Mitch Clarke at the UFC 148 event earlier this year in Calgary.
Two up-and-coming 155 pounders ... who ya' got?
UFC 157 will make history as the promotion's first-ever female champion, bantamweight badass Ronda Rousey, puts her 135-pound title on the line against ex-Strikeforce contender Liz Carmouche. Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson are also rumored to be squaring off in light heavyweight action.
