Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE
UFC bantamweight Vaughan Lee has not signed to face former WEC champion Urijah Faber at UFC 156 on Feb. 2, 2013. The British fighter says that while the reports of the match up got him new followers on Twitter, the potential fight is 'just a rumor' at this point.
Despite reports of a Super Bowl weekend match up with Urijah Faber at UFC 156, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight Vaughan Lee says he has not signed to face "The California Kid" and, at this point, the potential 135-pound showdown is "just a rumor."
Brazilian news outlet Tatame first reported new of the Bantamweight brawl, however, UFC officials have not confirmed the bout.
Lee recently spoke to Fighters Only about a fight with Faber and claims that while talks of the fight have gained him a plethora of new Twitter followers, the potential match up is far from official.
"Yeah it's a rumor, I haven't heard anything from the UFC confirming it, so yeah it's just a nice rumor that's got me a lot of followers on Twitter. I heard about me fighting Faber over Twitter, people we're like, ‘Well, you're fighting Faber and all this,' and I was like ‘Am I? Oh Cool.' It's just a rumor, we haven't heard anything."
Lee (12-8-1) was last seen in the Octagon at UFC on FUEL TV 4 in July, losing via submission to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 runner-up and Faber's teammate, T.J. Dillashaw.
The 30-year-old is 1-2 under the UFC banner, but should the fight with Faber materialize, he will have the chance to score an early candidate for "Upset of the Year" in 2013.
Lee was asked if he believes he could finish Faber inside the distance, but considering the Team Alpha-Male product has only been finished twice in his 32-fight career, Lee believes his best chance at getting the win would be with the help of the judges.
"He's hard to finish isn't he? I don't know. He's hard to finish man, doubt it, but, I'd probably grind out a decision."
MMAmania.com will have more on a potential Lee vs. Faber fight as it develops.
UFC 156: "Aldo vs. Edgar" will feature a marquee main event with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who will attempt to make his fourth title defense against former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.
