UFC on FX 6 results: Ross Pearson knocks out George Sotiropoulos in three

Matt Roberts

Ross Pearson brought an emphatic end to the UFC's debut Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season in Australia, as he knocked out rival coach George Sotiropoulos in three rounds at UFC on FX 6 tonight.

After an entire season of coaching against each other in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) to take place exclusively in Australia, entitled "The Smashes," George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson finally got together inside the cage to settle their differences.

It didn't take long for Pearson to establish himself. He caught the Aussie with a hard right hand that had his legs wobbly. As color commentator Kenny Florian put it, "he was doing the dance."

Somehow he managed to survive but ended up getting knocked down shortly thereafter. Again, though, he refused to go quietly, popping back up and popping a jab that backed up "The Real Deal."

Shockingly enough, it wasn't long after that "Sots" grabbed a takedown and took Pearson's back, nearly locking in a rear-naked choke to end it. He couldn't complete it but holy shit, this was one hell of a first round.

The pace was far slower for the second frame, as was to be expected after that taxing opening round. Sotiropoulos looked like the fresher of the two and he was gaining confidence as the round went deeper but Pearson scored another knocked with a left hand late.

Suddenly, "Sots" looked a bit worn and the Brit looked fresh. A tale of two rounds, in a sense.

It didn't take long for Pearson to land yet another left hook that put Sotiropoulos on the mat to start the third, however. He recovered quickly, or at least he seemed to, but Pearson stayed on him and after landing a big right hand down the middle, the referee finally stepped in to call a halt to the action.

What a way to close out the UFC's first TUF season in Australia, huh?
