Frank Mir knee injury update: 'I had the wrong shoes on that day'

You can do anything, but lay off Frank Mir's blue suede shoes. The former heavyweight champ is all patched up and good to go. Could a showdown against Daniel Cormier still happen in 2013?

Frank Mir and Daniel Cormier were all set to do battle earlier this year in a fight pitting a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion against a current Strikeforce Grand Prix tournament champion.

That was, until Mir suffered a torn meniscus, forcing him to pull out of the Showtime-televised event.

"You know, through training really difficult for the fight, couple maneuvers we were doing, plyometrics and what not, I guess I stepped wrong, kinda had the wrong shoes on I think, that day. I wasn't going to skip training and ended up slicing my meniscus on my other leg, that was the good knee, so I just had to go in and have it pulled out. Feels great now. I'm 100-percent healed. I'm more than happy to make good on my promise and challenge him. I think it would be great to fight him in the UFC and not have to go over to Strikeforce."

Mir's absence helped torpedo the Nov. 3 fight card and Cormier was eventually paired off against Dion Staring at the upcoming Strikeforce: "Champions" event next month in Oklahoma. Following the bout, "DC" is expected to transition to the ranks of UFC -- where Mir says he'll be waiting.

Does a "Mir vs. Cormier" showdown still interest you?
