Prior to getting hurt, Dan Henderson was promised the next light heavyweight title shot against division champion Jon Jones. In an odd twist, his friend and former training partner, Chael Sonnen, somehow leapfrogged him, which didn't go over well with "Hendo." And it apparently still doesn't sit right.
"That wasn't directed at Chael at all. It is what it is. I called it how I saw it. I could have said that the UFC is promoting circus acts. You know, the man with the longest arms against MMA's biggest mouth? It is what it is. I don't think that the fans wanted to see that -- they don't view it as a real fight. I'll always have love for Chael. I'll definitely help him train if he needs or wants my help. Advice? I trained a whole training camp for Jones. I probably have a lot of game plan in there. But, Chael and I are just different fighters, as well."
-- Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones will make his next 205-pound title defense versus mixed martial arts (MMA) bad boy Chael Sonnen, after the two coach opposite each other on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17. The match up was (and remains) controversial, as some in the MMA community feel that Sonnen did little more than talk his way into another title shot. Add Dan Henderson to that list of skeptics, who has been vocal about his disapproval of his friend and training partner jumping to the front of the line to acquire a crack at the belt, which -- in his mind -- belonged to him. In the meantime, "Hendo" will just have to settle for a marquee match up versus Lyoto Machida at UFC 156 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 2, 2013. Should he emerge victorious, and in one piece, perhaps, then, he'll finally get his shot at "Bones" and the 205-pound belt. Any of you Maniacs think "Hendo" has enough gas in the tank to get through "The Dragon" and give Jones a run for his money?
