Joe Camporeale-US PRESSWIRE
Former UFC lightweight contender Clay Guida will make his 145-pound debut opposite Hatsu Hioki at the UFC on FOX 6 event scheduled for Jan. 26, 2012 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
If at first you don't succeed, drop a weight class and try again.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight contender Clay Guida, who promises "royal beatings" in his new division, will make his 145-pound debut opposite Hatsu Hioki at the UFC on FOX 6 event scheduled for Jan. 26, 2012 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Promotion officials announced the upcoming scrap late last night.
Guida (29-13) was booed out of the building when he turned in a bizarre performance against Gray Maynard at the UFC on FX 4 telecast last June. Prior to playing "keep away" from "The Bully," the former "Carpenter" was outclassed by Ben Henderson as part of the inaugural UFC on FOX broadcast.
Can he reinvent himself at featherweight?
Not if Hioki (26-5) can help it. The Japanese submission specialist was riding a six-fight winning streak prior to being upended by Ricardo Lamas, also in "The Garden State" at the start of the summer. The former Sengoku champion is 2-1 inside the Octagon with wins over George Roop and Bart Palaszewski.
Wrestling vs. jiu-jitsu?
UFC on FOX 6 will feature a 125-pound world title fight between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson in the main event of the evening, with a rumored match-up between top lightweight contenders Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis also expected to hook 'em on the nationally-televised main card.
